Got a Doe This Evening

Gun: CVA StagHorn
Scope: Weaver Grand Slam 3X10
Bullet: 240 grain .430 XTP
Powder:110 Grains of Goex Pinnacle
Primer:Winchester shotgun

Deer was standing broadside at 40 yards. To make a long story short it wasnota bang flop. She was hit too farback and the tracking was on. Over one and one-half hours later she was found dead. She had been dead forsome timewhen she was found.

Usually have the demountable winch on the truck plus about 250 feet of 3/8" nylon cord. Forgot it all today. So i had the pleasure of dragging her up hill for about 100 yards.

i will try those Gold Dots after all. Maybe they will makeme shoot better. :D

BTW: "Shot too far back" is rebel for gut shot.

Well at least you admit it. I hate to think of how many deer I have helped track for being shot in the heart, only to discover the heart as I knew it was moved back a might...

Nice looking doe. As for that dragging.. that's what they make a four wheeler for with a winch.. :D

I did'nt see anything today but coyotes and man was I tempted to blast em. They had been chasing turkeys all day. Great doe and tracking job. That's some fine meat, most of it comes off the front and hind quarters and all the steaks come off the back along the spine which looks intact. MMM good.:D

Nice doe and I also am switching from those Hornady XTP sabots to Barnes 300 grain bullets and Harvester sabots.Mine ran over a 100 yards bleeding every 5 feet but crossed a river onto posted property which no one is allowed on.No more lung shots for me but only shoulder shots only for here on out using muzzleloader or rifle. At least if I take the front legs out he wont run as far and possibly give me a chance for a second shot.I should never have gotten away from Barnes bullets! Have not had abang flop on deer or hogs this year with the muzzleloader. None of them got away:but. It started out bad in February when i gutshot a hog at about 120 yards. The three deer i have killed this fall were non-bang flops due to improper bullet placement in two cases. The other deer was hit exactly right but the range was long and he took a few minutes to expire.

Have killed about a dozen hogs this year witha .30-06, a .223 and a .22 magnum. Mostof them have bang flopped.

i elk hunt next weekend and can only hope that things go much better. Trying to dragan elk is a totally different deal.

Good job!

Sounds like you earned that venison. At my age, I won't shoot a deer unless it's right next to the road. All that draggin' wears a man out...
