GPR Sight In
I got to shoot my new rock lock today. I love it. It is a great rifle. It took four adjustments to get it on target at 25yards. The fifth and final shot was dead on up and down but a little to the left side of the bulls eye. I didn't have time to do any extensive load development today as we had guys that left to hunt the areas behind their makeshift range. My shots were at twenty-five yards off of shooting sticks while sitting down. The load was 85 gr ffg Swiss black powder, felt wonder wad, .010 shooting patch, .535 round ball and ffffg goex for the pan primer. I didn’t have any problems with the lock flash. I think using the peep sight helped out with that. With the RMC touch hole liner, the lock times seemed very fast. I didn't notice any delay in the shot going off. I had no ignition problems either. The gun is really fun to shoot, especially in front of an audience. I will do an extended range session later in the year. The goal today was to sight it in and achieve hunting accuracy. I also wanted to get comfortable with the rifle before I went hunting with it. It is supposed to rain Sat and Sun. I am hoping to get a break in the rain Sun afternoon so I can take the GPR on its first hunt. I really love the gun. With a bench rest, I believe the rifle has the potential of shooting holes that touch each other. Had a blast today shooting it.

RE: GPR Sight In
you'll want a much thicker patch! .010 will burn up easily, especially with swiss.

RE: GPR Sight In
With the .535 ball, the ball won't go in with the thicker patch. That is why I am using a wonder wad in front of the ball.

RE: GPR Sight In
ooooooh ok! The wonderwad will do the job then. Sounds like a very fun day of shooting. Next time you get out to 50 yards, be sure to bring a file with you! I had to take down a great deal of material off my front sight on the GPR i had.

RE: GPR Sight In
I don't know if I am going to have to do that. I have a TC peep mounted on the back of the GPR. I still have some adjustment left in it. We will see.

RE: GPR Sight In
I had to file down my front sight too with my GPR. Mine is a 50 cal. I shoot 320 gr REALs or 275 gr Maxihunters and 80 gr of FFg (Goex). I have it sighted in at 2" high at 50 yds.

I have the 1:60 roundball twist. I don't think I can shoot conicals out fo mine?

RE: GPR Sight In
In my Lyman Trade rifle I tried both the .530 and .535 ball. I got better accuracy with the smaller ball but a thicker patch. It sounds like you have a blast and that's what matters. Also for a first time out, that's some good shooting.
