RE: A little buck behind the house
OK ... I just woke up from a gluttonous nap ...
A little background. I live just outside the city limits ... on a two acre lot. Its not very built up but there are a number of homes within 300 yards of mine. There is a school that is just over the hill about a half a mile. Every year there are mulies this size and larger rutting through my property. Two years ago there was a buck that was so huge that his antlers made his body look unusually small. Maybe 20 to 25 points (total as it was non-typical). A big animal though. I don't think the covenants prevent hunting ... its outside the city limits ... but I do know that none of my neighbors (and then there is my wife) would like to see these bruisers hunted. I know ... I would deal with law enforcement as these folks no doubt would call them over the incident. People call in people hunting on their own property ALL THE TIME around here. But it only happens in the rural neighborhood areas (2 to 10 acre tracts) where people enjoy viewing the wildlife and where one may find himself living close to one of the PETA sort. For all I know, there could be some little law which is on the books which could cause problems. I live within a 1/2 mile of a school and like I said, I would be discharging a firearm with in a few hundred yards of the neighbors if I hunted him. But I guess more than any of the those reasons, it doesn't seem like hunting to me. Nothing like going up to the mountains ... the way I really enjoy hunting. That said, its a fine animal and I wouldn't fault any of my neighbors for taking him. |
RE: A little buck behind the house
Send a telegram to Big Buck and invite him to the mountains for a weekend. Family reunion or some such excuse.

RE: A little buck behind the house
Charlie,
Returning from the range last night I saw a very good 5X5 on public land. I may hunt there. Season is over and unless he is taken before the 3rd rifle season, I should have an opportunity for him next year when he could be as big as this one I photographed. Check this one out. I photographed this afternoon with 12 does. Here is one of big buck's grandchildren (maybe). Likely a year and half buck and would field dress at least 135 lbs. |

RE: A little buck behind the house
Does that buck have brow tines?? If you were in a 4 point restriction area would he even be a legal buck?? Hard to believe, but it is possible. I will not tell you why I ask, but I had a bad experience in CO with a buck that had a 27 inch inside spread. Tom.

RE: A little buck behind the house
Chap,
I've thought about that too. But here is the deal. If bow hunt, I won't get to go muzzleloader hunting. So I have to make a choice. One other thing. Until rut hits. One hardly ever sees these bucks. They are nocturnal most of the time, I guess. But once the rut begins ... then one sees moving during daylight. I only have two acres so I'd probably waste my only draw (tag) waiting for a buck which wouldn't show. Even so ... I have given it thought ... that is ... hunt for him with a 3rd season rifle tag using a bow. But I'm not sure that is legal in Colorado (though I admit it should be). Too many questions. I've shot him a few times with the camera and sighting him with an unloaded rifle. |

RE: A little buck behind the house
Head0001,
He is legal and has brow tines as well. There is no 4 point restriction in my home GMU for Deer. There is for elk, though. |
RE: A little buck behind the house
Chap,
Thanks for the congrats. We are very blessed and very thankful. |
RE: A little buck behind the house
nice buck... good luck |
RE: A little buck behind the house
If you can't shoot em then hit em with your truck or better yet the wife's car.:D Great buck anywhere.

RE: A little buck behind the house
I'd have to let that one walk..... I don't think I could steady my gun well enough to make an ethical shot. I'd probably knock off one of the antlers :D Beautiful deer.
