Lost Omega Ram Rod
I dropped/lost my Omega ram rod about 2 weeks ago and had no clue where I lost it.Went to repair a tree stand Wed (put new Stainless steel bolts in it replacing 5 year old rusted bolds) and found it about 20 yards away on the steps of another guys tree stand (he had one of those Big Dog Double stands in there)! Somebody had found it, and placed it there. Also lostmy XS Power Rodfor my Savage, but found it the same day by retracing my steps. So, I went out and boughta pack of 29 cloth elastic hair bands, what girls wear ("pony tail holders") and now all my MLers have those holding the ram rod tight. So get your girly hair bands to hold your ram rod tight >>or<< take your gun stock off and strech out your ram rod holder. I did NOT want to do that on my Savage, since that may change POI---I have all the screws marked with dark ink so I can line them up exactly--for accuracy. Savage manual says 25 inch pounds to tighten the action screw. Anyway, maybe this will help someone not loose their ram rod.

RE: Lost Omega Ram Rod
I've never had this problem, but a friend did. He wrapped some electrical tape on the rod where it contacted the stock or retainer spring and that cured it. And, he had some tape along if a need arose.

RE: Lost Omega Ram Rod
The omega has a retainer spring tightener (allen screw) for the ram rod.
You have to remove the stock to adjust. Mine came with the allen wrench and not a word about it in the manual! |

I have lost my rod in my Pro Hunter. Just bought new one! I will listen to any ideers of how to keep that sucker in place!

RE: Lost Omega Ram Rod
on my omega it has a click in feel to it. i have the thumbhole stock. i dont think it would take much for some brush or a branch to pop it out when your not looking. also be careful with the stock screws. if you tighten the front one too much your rod will hold tighter but scratch and gouge. thompson center told me the front stock screw is supposed to be a little shorter but mine is not. other than the stupidly small trigger guard and painfully pointy trigger my omega shoots the best out of all my muzzleloaders.also dont buy the plastic version of the power handle. mine broke on opening day. i think there made out of metal now.

I lost mine out of an Omega also. Never found it. The power rod adaptor is now metal, I also had a plastic one that broke. The Power rod adaptor is what caused mine to get lost as it allows branches or brush to catch the rod and pull it out.

ORIGINAL: MLKeith I lost mine out of an Omega also. Never found it. The power rod adaptor is now metal, I also had a plastic one that broke. The Power rod adaptor is what caused mine to get lost as it allows branches or brush to catch the rod and pull it out. Everytime I shoot my Omega out of an elevated stand(assuming I am shooting at a downward angle) the ramrod falls out after the shot. Pretty annoying when you have to climb down just to reload, especially if you are in a climber.;) |
RE: Lost Omega Ram Rod
I don't want to sound sarcastic or nothin but How in the heck do you lose a ramrod while hunting? I've had mine back out an inch or so but never dropped it out completely. And I think I would hear it falling. Maybe I'm missing something. In the excitement of the moment, do you forget to put it back when reloading after a shot or does it just fall out of ur muzzie?

RE: Lost Omega Ram Rod
In my case I was following a blood trail through heavy brush and pushing the brush out with the butt of the rifle which I think, allows the brush to grab the power handle on the ramrod which apparently pulled it out without dropping it so it was not apparent until I got to the animal. No amount of backtracking was successful in finding the ramrod. Besides that I had an elk to process and get out and it was getting dark and combined rain and snow had started. Took over an hour to get the elk down the hill and close enough to the trailer to get it loaded.

it is easier than you think when your inso deep your on hands and knees, turning backwards to punch threw it while hanging on the the side of the river hill side w/ one hand to keep from falling off. It's easy whjen you look like you been attacked by a yard trimmer and your pulling jaggerz out of your legs for a week after. Called brush hunting and we get the bucks doing it. Now if your sitting on a field or in a tree all day...................... |
