Question on sighting in a TC Triumph
Hi all
I just sighted in my TC Triumph this morning. I'm using a Nikon Pro Staff 3X9 scope (non BDC). After about 16 shots my last shot was exactly 2" high at 100yds. I am using 100 grains pyrodex (2 pellets) and a 245 grain Powerbelts Copper Series.50 caliber. The gun shoots sweet. I haven't been able to find any ballistics charts for muzzle loaders and I have 2 questions. I know I need to shoot some more to fine tune but the questions I have are: 1) If I'm shooting 2" high at 100 yds, what will the gun shoot at 200 yds. 2) If I'm shooting 2" hign at 100 yds, what will the gunshoot at 50yds. 3) Should I sight it dead on at 100 yds and be good with that. Thanks. |

They have the charts for the 245/100gr load. If your shots are going to be under 80 yards, i'd highly recommend that you drop your charge down to 80gr so it doesnt fragment. Or switch to the beefier 270gr platinum. The 270 plat with 100gr powder or less has left holes in animals that i haven't seen a centerfire do. |
RE: Question on sighting in a TC Triumph
What he said. Reduce the load for those PBs, or change to heavier PBs, or try Hornady FPBs with 100 grains of Pyrodex. I really like FPBs, and like with PBs, no sabot (no plastic at all).

RE: Question on sighting in a TC Triumph
I took your advice and purchased the Platinum 270 grain sabots. Would you agree, even though the these are heavier, I should be close to right on at 100 yards using the 270 grain compared to 2" high with the 245 grain.

RE: Question on sighting in a TC Triumph
Yes you should be very close. Let us know how the platinums shoot.

You can do much better with a sabot if you are where you can use them say a 250gr Gold Dot. Lee
