Fantastic - great buck and story. It's nice when we get lucky sometimes. I think for the most part - for those of us that don't have the $$ or our own place to hunt -luck is a big factor. That, and learning the lay of the land and a lot of scouting. Unlike you though I am afraid to put out a trail cam. There are so many other hunters that it would probably get stolen. My buck was the ONLY deer I've seen in 4 weeks.

There is only one other hunter that hunts this land and I know him quite well. He enjoys the pics as much as I do. He doesn't have any means to check them. So he relys on me to show him the pics. Even still I rarely put the camera's out where other eyes can see them.

Spot lighters have been known to frequent the area so I try and keep them away from their eyes.

Thanks for the comments guys.

I would grind that big boy, he will be tough, stew meat and ground, only does and young bucks for meand onlyhind quarters and loins. Chap

What do you do with the front shoulders than? I hope you aint wasteful as a lot of hunters are...I to like the burger and stew meat...Chilly is good with deer meat.......Add a bit of sausage and it make a good loaf as well....

Anyway---congrades on your hunt and that is one fine buck...You have a right to brag all you want......I would...:D:D:D:D:D:D

Maybe it's justme, but I prefer the meat from a mature buck to that of a young deer, buck or doe. The flavor of all deer comes mosty from what they are feeding on. That deer is crop-fed if I've ever seen one. Should be good eating. Maybe if he was shot at the end of the season, after a couple months of running does he would be a bit stringy. I've never shot one like that though.

I have not noticed that older deer are "tough", though I will say that fawns are tender to the point of being mushy.

I say cut the deer as you normally would. If it turns out that the steaks are truly tough, you can always grind it later.

Almost forgot, that deer was a pig. Congrats.
