Speer Gold Dots

Any of you folks use the 300 grain gold dots for whitetails? I was thinking of trying some in a black harvester crush rib with about 90-100 grains of pyrodex RS. What has your experience been with penetration and expansion?

Dead deer. I've never recovered one from a deer.

I have been using them for 2 years. Love them. Complete pass-throughs except for one I recoveredthat passed completely front to back on adoe I shot facing me at about 80 yards. The bullet struck the animal in the base of the neck and tranversed the chest and abdominal cavity. I found it just under the hide by the off-siderear leg. Awesome internal damage - the bullet opened up like a flower with minimal weight loss. As Sabotloader said the petels are really tough and you can see the bonded lead still stuck to the copper jacket.

Two other deer I shot with the bullet dropped in their tracks and another one went only 20 yards. Of the four animals I have shot with this bullet 20 yards is as far as any of them got.

I shoot them in front of 120 gr of loose T7.

EDIT:Attached are the pics of the recovered 300gr Gold Dot from that doe.

That's good information to know. As I intend to use a 300 grain Speer Hollow Point .458 with 100 grains of Pyrodex P. I am hoping there will be expansion and good damage, while a pass through also.

Thanks for the information and the expansion and retention look impressive. From what I have heard from others, deer seem to go down pretty quickly with these if the shooter does his part.
