Our "primative arms" season opens Nov. 8th. My plan is to be sitting on my high chair in the woods at 0'Dark Hundred with the .54 Great Plains flintlock. Double checked my 95 grain hunting load on Saturday at 50, 75 and 100 yards (targets below). I think I'm ready for my first flintlock deer.
Here's the 50 yard, 5-shot target.

And the 75 yard 5-shot target.

And the 100 yard 5-shot target. Don't know what happened with that one at the very top of the target, but I'm pretty
sure it was my fault. Gotta` tell `ya, I'm pretty happy with those other four. I sure can't do any better than that with
iron sights at 100 yards.

All targets were shot with a 6 o'clock hold on the bull. It looks like dead on at 75 yards puts it 2" high at 50 and
2" low at 100. What more could you ask for (other than better eyesight and shooting skills
)????
Here's my high chair in the piney woods - real comfortable, safe andeasy to get into (16 ft. high).

Here's the view from the chair. There's an active deer cross-trail about 50 yards down that logging cut.

The gun is ready. The stand is ready.I'm ready. I sure hope the deer are ready.

That is some great looking shooting there. I have watched people with fancy inline rifles that can not shoot that good with there open sights... I would say you are more then ready. And that is a great looking stand you have there..

Both of my Flints are also ready for anything within 100 yd I am only hunting with Muzzy's this year. My Encore is set to 200 and my deerstalker percussion will do 150.

Semi, That looks like a nice place to hunt. I'd like more info on your "high chair". Looks homemade but the cross pieces maybe tells me something else. They look like metal.

I sighted in my open sight Knight Disc 2" high at 50, but my groups were not as good as your flinter. Nice shooting. My bullet was a Barnes MZ 300g, supplied sabot, Win primer. Oh, 100g of you know, that other powder, starting with a B and ending with 209!

Yep, made it myself sjsfire. The cross braces are 1/2" electrical conduit, cut to length with the ends smashed flat, drilled, and bolted to the wood frame. The front ladder and back frame are one piece units. Everything else is attached with 1/4" galvanized bolts. I assemble it on-site in a laid down position, then stand it up. I can lay it down again, take it apart, and move it to a new location if I want.If you want me to post some close up pictures of the assembly, let me know.
