Scope on a Hawken Rifle?
I have atraditional Hawken Rifle with fiber optic sites.I would like to keep using the gun for hunting, but my eyes are to the point where I am only good to 50 yds.I am thinking about putting a scope on it, just curious to see if this is an option, if anyone can recommend where to find scope mounts/scope forthis.
Thanks, Rick C. |
RE: Scope on a Hawken Rifle?
T/C makes one. It may be universal for octagonal barrels, not sure though.

RE: Scope on a Hawken Rifle?
Weaver makes a flat bottom standard mount that's pretty comment, I used them for my hunting Renegade when my eyes got bad. And mounted a few for some customers. Lee

RE: Scope on a Hawken Rifle?
Hey Rick, you might want to consider a pistol scope mounted in a semi-scout position about where the regular rear sights are. I'm using a 2x scope in that way on my New Englander and it works real well.

Dixie sells the Quic-kee Mount in 2 sizes for 15/16th's and 1 inch barrels.
Theystatethat no drilling, tapping or hammer modificationis necessary. http://www.dixiegunworks.com/product_info.php?products_id=7612 http://www.dixiegunworks.com/product_info.php?products_id=7613 |

Articcap have you ever used that mount.. I have saw them but never trusted them... just wondering.
I have a scope mounted on a Renegade and it works good. Like you, sights and old eyes are playing tricks on me. So while it is only a 1X scope, it is a better aiming device then the open sights... |

RE: Scope on a Hawken Rifle?
![]() I have an off set base that the hammer does not need to be adjusted for. I have a Thompson Center 1X scope mounted on it. 1x is all that is legal for muzzleloaders in Wisconsin. ![]() I also bought some plates for different T/C traditional rifles at an auction. I am not POSITIVE and if someone knows, please tell me. I believe these plates are screwed to the top of the rifle. It then says, use a #63-B base which I believe is the base that then attaches to that plate for the mounting of the rings. I did let someone have a plate but they have not got back to me as to whether this worked on their rifle or not. |
RE: Scope on a Hawken Rifle?
![]() I am guessing that that base then attaches to the plate and you can then mount weaver style rings to the 63-b base. Does that sound right? |
RE: Scope on a Hawken Rifle?
I never saw or used the Quic-kee Mount, but I've used abeefy aluminumclampmount withthe scope mounted forward scout style. The screwsonly neededto be tightened down to squeezethebarrel flats and it held just fine.Butthat specific model isn't available from Cabela's anymore - it wasdiscontinued long ago.
It was mounted ona 13/16th's .50 caliber barrel which made drilling & tappingnot advisable because the barrel walls were simplytoo thin. If someone didn't prefer todrill & taptheir barrel, then a temporary mount is a viable option. Andwhethera drill & tap job isdone well or not, the re-sale value of the riflemight be lowered. |
