How to get the right size sabot???

I have been reading with great interest the post about 45-70
bullets and the sabots to use..I guess the reason for interest
is because I cast lots of bullets for my 45 cal. cartridge rifles
and have several different mold...I load for 45-70/45-95 and the
45-120,which all use the same bullets of course...Weights any-
where from 400 plus to 612 grains...

Therefore I figure with the correct sabots and can possibly find
one that will work well in my Mustang rifle...Perhaps!!!!!

Why buy the others if what I have on hand will work....

I tried some cast .452 bullets in my Savage this summer, there were too hard and shot all over the place, like a 10" or 12"group. I think if you made some softer bullets and used the right sabot, you would have something, especially in a regular ML with 70g of BP or 95g of BP.

Gleason,,

I never mentioned they were of hard alloy....They are all soft in order to
bump up in the bore..I make 95% of them 1 in 30 0r maybe 1 in 40...
Thanks for your reply anyway...

Chap I can not see a single reason why the hardness of a bullet would have anything to do with a bullet that was shot in a sabot?? I do not get that one. I have shot a lot of cast lead bullets from a MZ. Both saboted, and conicals. I have always used straight WW in all my casting(except for roundballs in my flinter). I am just not sure why you would consider hardness as a factor in a sabot?? Tom.

Bullet hardness should not matter, as sabots are used with x bullets and jacketed bullets. I would think the fit of the bullet/sabot combination in the boreis most important. But, what do I know, I just bought my first in-line this week, and it hasn't even been delivered yet.

MMP makes the sabots. They are sold through Knight Rifle as well. MMP has good prices if you pick up four packs or more as they include shipping as well.
