Maxiball lube?

I just got some unlubed 370 maxi balls (and a stick of SPG lube) from Track of the Wolf. What is the best way to lube these bullets..and how much? Thanks

RE: Maxiball lube?

I'm not familiar with that lube. I use bore butter. For bullets like maxiballs, just fill the grooves with lube. Don't worry about getting too much on a bullet.

I wipe the base of the bullet before loading, insert the bullet in the bore and press with fingers down until the top band of the bullet hits the bore. Then I wipe any excess lube off the muzzle.

If you want to prelube a bunch of bullets they do make an attachment for a tube of bore butter, basically insert bare bullets in one end, squeeze tube, keep putting bullets in until lubed bullets come out the other end.

I am familiar with the SPG lube. I have a luber sizer that it works well in but without that you can use following method. Put the stick ina pan and set pan in another pan with water in it on the stove. Heat slowly until the lube melts. Try to size the first pan or container so that the height of the melted lube will be the same as the top groove on the bullets (with only one stick to work with you will have to use a relatively small pan or container. Once the lube is melted set all the bullets you can cram into the lube container and let it cool. Once cool find a tube (plastic bullet holder from the many available that the bullets come in) and use it like a cookie cutter to remove the bullets one at a time. Once done repeat until all bullets are lubed. A lot of work to get bullets lubed. You could use the bore butter with more ease although I do like the performance of the SPG lube and it is more stable when cool. The bore butter always stays somewhat messy. You could also try heating the stick of lube in a microwave just until it gets soft and work the lube into the grooves of the bullets by hand. I have not tried that as I have the luber/sizer but it might be possible and be less work for you. If you try the microwave be careful to not get it so hot it will burn as hot wax is difficult to get off your body quickly.

I have never used the lube you mentioned.. HERE IS A USE FOR THAT BORE BUTTER WE ALL HATE..:D Bore Butter is a good conicallube. Put a little dollop on your finger in about the first joint and roll that maxball back and around until you fill all the grooves. Wipe the bottom clean, you might even put a wad under them, and try them. I never push a maxiball too hard. 90 grains is about the top of the line with them.

I make a lube with castor oil and bees wax and a little murphy oil soap for my conicals. There are lots of ways to make a lube. Some just take Crisco Shortening and lube with that. Some use hand cleaner. Good luck with your bullets.

My suggestion would be to lightly coat all of the bullet "lands" but toonly fill the bottom groove with the SPG lube. ;)

Store bought Maxiballs I have purchased lube the smaller groove and the larger upper groove. So now with the ones I cast, that's how I lube them.
