My Shortest Range Report Ever
Five shots with the Mustang - 300 grain Gold Dots in Harvester short black sabots & 80 grains (weight) T7 FFF -1 & 1/2" 100 yard group. Ready for deer or hogs.
Many, many shots (3/4 can of powder)with the .54 Great Plains flintlock shooting 80 grains GOEX FFFg and patched ball at 50 yards using my home made barrel mounted peep sight with the 1/4" aperture. Not as tight a group as with the Lyman tang mounted peep, but a lot easier to see through in low light. Good enough that ifI get a shot when ML season opens onNov 8th. I'll be eating venison. :) No targets to show - forgot and left themat the camp (I'm old ya` know). Oh, one more thing. Had my first ever flash in the pan on about shot number 40. Picked the vent and off she went. One flash in the pan out of 300+ shots ain't too bad. |

RE: My Shortest Range Report Ever
I would love to get a crack atthat big hog with the flintlock. But if I get a chance to try amoonlight shotI think I'm going to need the Mustang with the Leupold 3X9. I might even bring along my .22 Hornet in case I get a chance for a shot at a second one.
