RE: Loads?

It's hard for anyone to say what powder will work best in your rifle. If I HAD A PRO HUNTER... I would start my loads with 100 grains of Triple Se7en 2f, shoot a group, swab between shots, and then kick it up to 110 grains of the same powder loose. Again, swab between shots. If you still have good accuracy, kick it to 120 grains and do the same again. if you feel the need for speed.

Don't get too wrapped up in the 150 grain story. Unless you're shooting pellets and your rifle likes those strong loads. If all you're hunting is whitetail or mule deer, even 100 grains of powder is a great plenty in most circumstances.

RE: Loads?

I've tried dozens of different bullet/load/powder combos with my Encore Pro Hunter and the most accurate load I've found thus far is 100 grains of Shockeys Gold, using a 250 gr Shockwave Super Glide and a MMP Sub-base. I've also have found that my rifle seems to like the Triple7 primers with this particular load. Tomorrow I'm heading out to see how my rifle likes the new Lightfield 300 grain lead bullets. I'll try these new rounds with 4 different brands of primers and 3 different brands of powder and a fair selection of charge weights..... we'll see?

Try the new BH209 from Western powders. If you get some then try 100 - 120 gr. with a Harvester Short Black sabot and a 250 gr. Shockwave bullet. This combination seems to shoot real well in most T/C guns. At least it does in the Triumphs and Omegas. The Bh209 is by far the best powder I have ever used.

RE: Loads?

Here's what I've found with Shockey's Gold (loose FFg) in my Mustang. It is very accurate, but very low pressure/low velocity. For example,105 grains volume of JSG under a 300 grain Gold Dot in a Harvester short blacksabot gave me a five shot average of 1264 fps. 120 grains gave me 1381 fps.

120 grains of GOEX FFFg gave me1641 fps.

100 grains of T7gaveme close to 1800 fps.

The lowest charge of T7 I've shot with this bullet was 75 grains, and it gave me 1635 fps. - more than250 fps faster than the 120 grain JSG load.I suspect I would have to back T7 down to 60 grains to get as low a velocity as that 120 grain load of JSG.

I haven't shot Pyrodex with the same bullet as the above loads, but based on its performance with other 300 grain bullets I'd guess 100 grains of Pyrodex RS would be somewhere around 1500 fps.
