I am back from shoulder surgery,Question

Hey guy's, I'am back. The shoulder is recovering to the point that I am going to take the ole 54 gp out for the first time. As you remember I purchased the rifle in April and had to have shoulder surgery in may, never did fire the gun. Now I want to use a light load because of the shoulder and wonder if 50grs of pyrodex rs and .530 ball is too light of a load? I am open to all suggestions. Thanks Duck Creek Hunter.

Glad you are back and doing well...

50 grs is fine in a .54, that's what I use for squirrels, shoots flat out to about 30 yards...

You could even start with 25-30 grains and see how it does, doesn't take much to pop a round ball out of a barrel...I've even popped them out by pushing a few grains of FFFF through the touch hole...:D

that should work just fine.. just be careful and do not push it too hard.. Good luck shooting.

Fifty grains??? Absolutely! Real comfortable shooting too. In my .54 GP flintlock 50 grains hits the bottom halfof the bull at 50 yards,95 grains hits the top half.

Not sure about 50 but 60 grains of RS will give you about 1200 fps with a 54 RB. An interesting thing about RB is that once it drops to the speed of sound it does not slow down as fast as at higher speeds. That should make a good close range load for you. Take it slow on that shoulder, you don't want to re-injure it and set yourself back.

Glad to hear the shoulder surgery went well. Make sure you take it easy. My Dad had shoulder surgery a few years back, didn't take enough time to recover and had to have a redo a couple months later.

Good luck shooting, let us know how it goes.
