RE: White Shooters...
Very interesting, for that price I hope it includes the hammer. There are sources for the #11 and musket BP's for much less than that. Thanks for the update.

RE: White Shooters...
Are you folks having any trouble getting bullets for your whites. The only bullets that i have found to shoot accurate in mine is the thomspon center maxi balls in 370gr. I have tried the 350gr and they want shoot at all. I have tried several different other types of bullets with no luck either.

It is a sin according to most White owners... but you know that they shoot sabots GREAT... I shoot a 45-70 bullet in an MMP sabot and it is a real shooter... other than that Dan's conicals are really really good. |
RE: White Shooters...
i have never tried sabots before, but i have tried power belts. they shot pitful out of my gun. i went last year and bought a optima elite and it shoots power belts great. but i still love to hunt with the white. I have had mine for probably 10 years the only powder i have used is proydex p. Have you ever tried any other powder and if you dont mind what type of sabots do you use out of yours?

RE: White Shooters...
The powders I most commonly use in my 3Whites are, Triple Se7en 3f, Goex 3f, Swiss 3f, and Pyrodex P. For conicals I load 70-90 grains depending on which powder. A sweet load is 70 grains of Triple Se7en 3f, a wad and a 500 grain Bull Shop Conical. Lots of powder and accuracy is exceptional.
Swiss is a powder I buy when I get another case of black powder. I get a couple pounds and it is like a special treat to shoot it. But once I run out, I go back to the Triple Se7en for the most part. |

Have you ever tried any other powder and if you dont mind what type of sabots do you use out of yours? In the 97 - I shoot a MMP HPH-.458/50 cal Orange sabor or a MMP HPH-12 .451/.452 - 50 cal black sabot. I have also learned of late the regular MMP .451/.452-50 short black sabot might be the better sabot as it might be a bit tighter. I shoot basically three different bullets from the gun for hunting and 1 really fun bullet to shoot. First sabot/bullet combination.. My elk load is a .458 (45-70) 300 grain Nosler partition pushed by 110 grains of T7-2f or if I were using the #11 cap I would swith that to T7-3f. I do substitute the a Hornady .458/300 grain HP for target practice or general shooting. Actually it would also make a real decent hunting bullet. Both of these bullets are real rifle bullets and are very tough. I also shoot a .451/300 grain Nosler partition pistol bullet or a .452/300 grain Speer Gold Dot (less expensive) but a bonded poor man's Nosler. The velocity of these bullets is right at 1750/60 fps For deer, I switch to a .451/260 grain Nosler Partition with the same powder load or a .452/250 grain Speer Gold Dot. Both of these do an outstanding job on Whitetail and Mule deer. Velocity - 1860 The fun bullet is a 10mm (40 cal)/ 200 grain Hornady XTP with 110 grains of T7....2200 fps. It is a great plinking load and does a devil of a job on peepers - ground squirrels. Plus several people have written that work very well on deer also. For a conical if I were to shoot conicals from that gun it would be a .5045/460 grain MTNex from Bull Shop. with 90 grains of T7-2f, I also use a Track of the Wolf .125x.510 shot card between the conical and the powder. Hope some of this information helps... mike |
RE: White Shooters...
The g-series and the 97 use the same bolt so far as I can tell. The only difference is that one's (the g-series I think) cocking lever is a bit larger in diameter than the other. So a g-series bolt will work fine in a 97 and vice-versa, but you need the matching cocking lever.
