http://www.shootnhunt.com/catalog/JM/black_powder/rifles/cva/0518556.html
I was looking for a inline for my son who wants to try BP hunting:I am no stranger to cva I had a eclipse way back and was a real shooter only sold it because of the T Bolt . I have my t/c thunderhawk and a few flinters from t/c and while shooting today a guy who just purcased this above cva said m/l was just not for him and ask me if I would be interested in the rifle $100.00 bucks. I did purchase for my son now just have to work up on a load before the new 2008 hunting season. I think I will try the same load I use in my thunderhawk 80 grains of triple 777 and a few buffalo SSb 375 sabots |
RE: new cva
Lonewolf.. you got a heck of a deal. Even I would have jumped at a deal like that. Keep us posted as to how it shoots. I think with the new CVA rifles on the market, you are going to start seeing the Optima and a few others come down drastically in price. I might even pick one at if they get cheap enough.

RE: new cva
Heck of a deal on that.In my opinion, those Optima's aren't the prettiest to look at, but they sure do shoulder nice.

RE: new cva
The 29" barrel does add overall weight to the gun
I did snap a few primers to day and it has a sweet 2 1/2 trigger pull |
RE: new cva
Very nice deal.
I like the looks of that rifle. I had one Black/blued in 50 cal I gave it to a friend when I bought my Encore so she could hunt with me |
RE: new cva
Question on pellets which I never use but came with the gun triple777 ?
Just drop then down the barrel and then seat the sabot bullet? any compression needed when seating the sabot? I only use loose powder have no idea what to do with pellets:I think I also have some Jim sharky gold pellets also seem they are coned a little: |
RE: new cva
Cool! Just got a cva optima is a trade last night! Cant wait to get it in.
With pellets, easily seat the projectile on top of the pellet, When you feel the bullet touch the pellet, stop! You dont need to do any hammering on the ramrod. |
RE: new cva
Just slide them pellets down the barrel and then seat the projectile firm onto the top of the pellets. After that, swab and treat is like any other powder. With the Jim Shockey pellets, I was told you have to crush them for the best accuracy, but again.. this is what I was told. And they need firm seating pressure.
Good luck with that rifle. |
RE: new cva
Make sure the blackest end goes down first.
