Shooting for Semisane and his storm

I felt bad that Semisane could not get to the range and shoot his rifle because of a storm. So I took my Thompson Center Renegade that is scoped with a 1X Thompson Center Hawkins scope, and on top of a Green Mountain Long Range Hunter stainless steel barrel, to my range for him.

I'm sure he likes lots of powder, so I took some Pyrodex RS, Triple Se7en 2f, and some Graf's & Sons 2f powder. I even opened a new box of Hornady .44 caliber .430 diameter 300 grain XTP's and a new box of the Harvester Green Crushed Rib sabots. I decided all shooting would be done with 100 grains of powder.

So to check the loads I set up at 25 yards first and shot for the corner targets with each powder.

I had a nasty hangfire with the Graf's because I must have over swabbed from the Triple Se7en. But I held through it enough to put it in the group. Each three shot group was done without swabbing for that powder. And the Pyrodex RS impressed the devil out of me.

I then moved back to 50 yards with the target and started with the Triple Se7en powder. It shot a good group. A little high and to the right, but a good group. I then swabbed clean and shot the Graf's powder. It was doing real good putting them right next to the bull, so I decided to MONKEY WITH THE SCOPE . That scope I laterlearned moves 1/2 in for each click so I sent one way over to the left when I made my adjustment. I then made a slight adjustment back, and set that one just under the bull. I swabbed the barrel again and got ready to test the Pyrodex RS (I new Semisane would like the order of the testing).

I shot three with the Pyrodex RS and could not believe the group. I was going to shoot a fourth, even a fifth but remembered I had some very important things to do and there was not need trying to improve on that.. (and I was afraid that one special spirit would visit) so I called it quits for the day.

I sure hope it made Semisane happy knowing I was shooting for him today. It did wonders for me.. :D

Yes this is the Gustav shoot. No mine is the 28 inch stainless. I have a 21 inch also but that is a flintlock on an old Hawkins rifle. It also shoots real good, but there is no scope on it.

Why thank you Cayugad. Mighty nice of `ya. That's exactly the kind of tight groups I would have shot.:D

Things are looking grim. Old Gustav seems to be building speed and muscle. Just got finished boarding up the windows and putting all of the loose yard stuff in the garage. I've got a generator and would normally ride out a small storm at home. But this sucker looks like it's going to bea biggie! We're evacuating in the morning. Heading to my sister-in-law's place North of Atlanta. We were planning a visit up there a week from now anyway. so we're just going a week earlier. If the house takes a bad hit while we're gone so be it. I'll worry about that next week.

Good testing Dave - Isn't it funny how one barrel will shoot something and another identical barrel won't. My last outing with 300 Gr Shockwaves out of my 1:28 GM LRH was all over the place with both Pyrodex RS and P. But T7 and FFg and FFFg shot well - especially the FFg (Goex).

That was very nice of you to shoot for Semisane. I know I would have been very happy to know a good friend had done that for me.

Semisane, I hope all goes well for you and your family. These storms are getting to be too much for anyone to handle. My prayers to all the brothers and sisters in the area of gustav.
