54 Deerstalker Flint
 

I shot lots rounds to day 3 fail to spark changed flint . I shot 10 444 power belts with 75 gr 2f and 80 fr 3f all placed within a 3 inch group at 50 yds. I than went to the mmp 50 cal sabot and a remington 350gr 50 cal bullet hollow point. I shot at least 20 of these with no group bigger than 3 inches also with 75 gr 2 f. The last group was a quarter size 3 shot group basicallly in one hole. I shot these with my Lyman Deer stalker 1x48 54 cal. I don't know what I did right but this is a very good shooting rifle. The sights were RMC rear v peep and Lyman red glow front sight. I am good to 100yds I think and the combo groups under 4 inches over all.

That sounds like a real good shooter you have there. Its kind of fun when the rifle shoots that well.

What do you think of the 444's in a 50 cal deerstalker flint?

It is a large heavy bullet I got them for 7.95 a pkg. It is a flat point full copper bullet I feel it will be at the most a 100 yard bullet. . I will use it on deer it will poke a big enough hole through even if it doesn't mushroom. You might have trouble finding them. The 405 aero tip would also work well. I would not go much over 80 gr of powder because of shorter barrel and you won't over power the bullet. If you can find them give them a try.

In my .54 caliber I shoot the 405 grain Powerbelts. I got them cheap when they were on sale. They shoot real good, but I would suspect they would make a better elk load then white tail. Although they should take a deer to the ground with little problem.

These Lymans shoot a lot of projectiles real well.

At the price I got these they are a good plinking bullet I will use the purple sabot and the 50 cal 350 gr Remington for hunting It is a big slug at should open up real good. Like Dave says that big of a bullet is good for Elk.
