Corey - that was your first mistake. If after popping the caps and not seeing any burn marks on the patch. Pretty good indication something was amiss.
The screwdriver - well that could have happened to anybody. And a 30 min drive sucks. I've been there. Now I'm 2 minutes from my shooting range.
Packing a bag is the way to go. If I know I am going, I pack the previous evening. I have a MTM shooting box, which is nothing more than a redesigned tool box. In the top portion I keep all my tools (screwdrivers, allen wrenches, nipple wrench, ball puller, worm, etc.) The bottom has all the shooting stuff (bullets, powder, ball starter, patches, cleaning supplies). I also take along my cleaning rod with T-handle and approriate sized jag. I use it for cleaning between shots and loading. Then there is the spotting scope or binos (I keep a small 9x25 pair in the shooting box), masking tape. I always check for the tape. I have 5 or 6 rolls of it but it keeps disappearing. I think Murphy or a gremlin steals it on me.
Unless my son is using my pick up to get remodeling supplies, my shooting table, target stand and sand bags are always in the bed.
Anyway, my whole point is to try and get prepared the day before rather than scrambling to get everything you need right away.
Well said.An ounce of prevention and being prpaired and what cayugad said about having allot to do in a little time, that one gets me everytime.

I had to laugh when I read the part about your son stealing your tape.
When I was working as an auto glass installer (manager) before my kidney transplant I had all MAC tools,15 drawr kenedy tool box, felt lined. All the tools stayed in their original packing containers and were lined up perfectly.I could tell at a glance if something was missing.

I went to my parents house to help my dad do some work,I had to get under the house and he was handing me the tools. When the work was done I went to put my tools away and they were thrown all over the yard,I had a fit, apparently it was payback time for dad, when I was a kid he had nice tools and he would usually find them with the lawn mower right where I had left them. The payback worked.

sax, i am the same way with my fathers tools. He's a heavy equipment mechanic and when he used to work for himself he collected a nice big pile of snapon and mac tools over the 30+ years. I try to keep them in order and clean, but often find myself digging through the sand trying to find the socket that i misplaced:D

Its scary working with a $400 torque wrench.

In the words of cascadedad "

"Farfromshootin. The German god that everyone knows and hates. Convinces you to get to the shooting range without ONE of the important items, i.e. bullets, caps, powder, ear protection................ :D:D

Corey, it never fails when we want to do something we are excited about something goes wrong, like when the wifesays she has a headache:D:D

have to pull the hammer all the way back before it release. one of the adjustment screw was cut almost smooth.

thinking about ordering a new lock for it or just look for the small parts.

3 problems in one day.

I might get a big buck this year. ;)

SAX

Wal-Mart tool box... it has been a life saver several times to have all that junk portable...at the range and even hunting - it goes with me just as my truck does...

Yep! Here's mine. I like the canvas tool bag for the 40 lb. bullet assortment.

Hey corey, are you sure you didn't have the bolt that holds the lock in too tight? That will bind everything up some times - especially if it protrudes through the lock plate and pushes against the hammer.
