Will this powder work in my flintlock?
I cant find any real blackpowder around here but I found 2 bottles of this on clearence at Gander Mountain last night for $9.99 each so I got them.

Is it ok for priming the pan?

If you use black to prime and put about a 10 gr primer charge of blackdown before you put your regular load[ most of the subs will work this way]in, it will, I realize its a pain but it will stretch your black a long way. Lee

What kind of Black should I get.should it be diff for the pan like 3F for barrell and 4F for pan or what.
It's a Lyman Deerstalker flinter with 1:48 twist

I use GOEX FFFg in my flintlock, both for the load and in the pan. Never had any ignition problems. I had about a half can of old FFg on hand when I got the gun and used that until I got the FFFg. It also worked fine in the pan.

You can't get bp around here either, and that's why I stick to percussion guns. I'd love to have a sparkie but I really don't burn enough powder in a year to order enough powder to bring down the per pound cost of the hazmat shipping fee. None of my friends shoot muzzleloaders at all, so I'm on my own. The hazmat fee is $20 on top of normal shipping rates whether there's one pound or 25 pounds in the box, so see if you can get some buddies together to order a bunch of it at once.

Sax i honestly would go with 3f as 2f in my lyman had to many issues and would not ignite consistently. 3f means you'll also get to shoot less powder but match 2f at the same time. Burns cleaner too.

For the pan I would get 4F it will do just fine for a priming charge too.[ Saller granules burn hotter so less delay] Lee

If you ever do order some, I too suggest you get FFFg. I use Goes also and don't have any problems with it. I heard that Swiss is a bit cleaner burning but I've never tried it.
Did you try doing a google search for black powder supplies in your area. It may be worth taking a trip. You never know what you will find in a black powder/ML shop.

I use 2 0r 3 f in my 54 deerstalker 3 or 4 works about the same in the pan. I also duplex 10 gr of 2 or 3 f and 70 to 80 gr of goex 3 f pinnacle with good results. I use 70 gr of 3 f and a 444 powerbelt with great groups.

Like already said, the only way to get that powder to ignite in a flintlock is to duplex it with some real black powder. Even 20 grains of black powder first and then the Pyrodex P. Of all the powders out there, Pyrodex is one of the hardest to ignite. I think you'd be in for a very frustrating and disappointing day with just Pyrodex P.

Since you have to order powder, get one pound (one can) of 4f. 3f will do the same for you, but 4f flows better out of the small pan powder flasks. Some rifles like 3f, some 2f for the main charge. So I would also get a pound of each of them. BUT you start shooting a lot with that flintlock, and a pound of powder disappears fast. A couple long range days, and I can burn off a pound of powder. So you might want to stock pile since it is not there, in your area. I personally get ten pounds of each when I buy powder. 10 of the 2f and 3f. One pound of 4f will last you a VERY LONG TIME. I been shooting these things a number of years and finally burned off a pound of 4f powder. I always figured a pound of that give you about 1500+ prime charges.. so that is a lot of shooting.

For powder, I like Goex, Graf's & Sons, or Swiss. Swiss is a great powder, but it is costly. Goex and Graf's do the same job and work excellent. Graf's & Sons sell their powder (made by Wano of Germany) of less then Goex.. And there is a $25.00 hazmat fee to mail it.
