Bi(pod) Curious
I was thinking about getting a bipod for the KRB as an alternative to a standard rest. I figure I can take a bipod with me when I hunt, but it would be mighty awkward trying to lug a rest. I've never shot off one so I was just wondering if anyone has one they would recommend, or would you even recommend one at all? If so, would something shorter for prone/bench shooting be better than something a little taller for sitting/kneeling shots?
Thanks for the help. Vince |
RE: Bi(pod) Curious
I use shooting sticks that are made from golf club handles (a good use for golf clubs.). They are short enough for sitting but can be spread out far enought to use them in a prone postion.
I use them like that all the time when hunting youtes with my Swift. :)Al |

I like short 'pods for prone work, where a backpack isn't taken along.
A backpack makes a mighty fine shootin' rest............. |

Alley - being an On again, off again golfer myself, I have to ask - Are these the clubs you broke over your knee and now use them as shooting sticks? Remember, golf clubs are just like guns. They will only put the projectile where you want it if you do your part.
Kirby - Depends on how you hunt. When I ML hunt, or hunting in general, I sit and move, sit and move, or still hunt. I recently got the Primos Trigger Stick (the longer one) to use as a rest. This is basically a monopod shooting stick that is almost instantly height adjustable with a squeeze of the trigger. I think this should work out well for me because of its ease of carry and use while on the move. While sitting, I usually can use something else for a rest like a log, tree, etc. Just somethng else to consider. |

I have used a monopod for years. They work well from a sitting position. A monopod is a little more steady but not as easy to use. I have a Stoney Point and they also work well as a walking stick. The trigger stick, as mentioned above, looks like it might be a little better than the one I have. I use mine for my 22, for squirrel hunting, and my Omega for deer.

I used the golf clubs after my son left home and didn't take them with him. Best use of golf clubs and balls, remain some one hits the ball, after it comes to rest you pull out your favorite rifle and kill the ball. Winner is the shooter who kills the most balls in a day with the least shots.
Skills are range estmation, breath control, target hold and follow thru. :)Al |

I use a mono pod (Primos Trigger Stick)
I hunt in such thick stuff the is no time for adjusting individual legs. I can see where the shooting sticks would work fine but at just under 6'8" tallthey would be to long to lug around I guess it all depends on where and how you hunt. |
