TC Omega & 340gr Dead Center Range Report

After seeing the bullet drop card posted by Chapman I decided to run a fewPR Dead Center's over the chrony.
At muzzle = 1745 fps using 100 gr 2f T7
Using this load I would have a Maximum PBR of 177 yds with a 6 inch kill zone zero'd at 150 yds

I also chrony'd one of their (Pricision Rifle) recommended loads 110 gr 2f T7
Muzzle Velocity = 1824 fps
100 yd velocity= 1589 fps (There was a variation of real, vice calculated table velocity at 100 yds using published BC of .376. I adjusted the BC to reflect the real Velocity I attained. The NEW BC is .280)

Using the table data it would give me a Maximum PBR of 178 yds zero'd at 152 yds with a 6 inch kill zone.

Number six was over the chrony @ 100 yds so I played it safe and held a bit higher.;):D

Number 1 was on a clean dry barrel all others were one wet swab then flipped then a dry patch down and back then flipped.

nice shooting and a very good load there...

Thanks Dave. I always break out in a little bit of a sweat when I shoot over the chrony @ 100 yds. They are fragile critters that don't take well to lead.

I found it interesting about the bullet BC. But there is no doubt about the energy that thing carried down range.

Yep, they're not very hard to bring down. I got a bang-flop on mine with just a sabot. :D

I think it's a good investment to prove or disprove manufacturer claims and if for nothing else, compare different loads.

If it isn't raining tomorrow (too hard) I'm going to take the Omega again with some .458 Nosler Partitions and Orange MMP sabots.

This rifle was sighted in for 110 gr 2f T7 and a 300 gr Nosler Partition. 3 inches high at 100 yds. The 340's @ 110 2f T7 shot to the same point of impact. Odd

Excellent shooting and confirmation of ballistics info. Those Omega's are very accurate rifle. I just shot the .452 Barnes MZ 300g and got an inch group at 100 yards using Blackhorn 209 powder. I recall you like the 300g Noslers rifle bullets also, but at Gander Mountain on Saturday there were $99 for 50! So $2/bullet now. Unbelievable. Chap

Kinda says something about the effect of BC over a 100 yards. I am sure those Precision DC's have a hefty BC. But, I am also certain of what the .458 Nosler will do to an elk.

OK. Thanks. I bought 60 of the Barnes Expanders (on sale for $12.99 for 20 on Traditions Web site, bargin bin) that I will shoot during our 2 week ML only season with my Omega and Blackhorn. I sill have about 40 Nosler Partitions left that I will let my son use in his Knight Long Range Hunter for both NY and VA. That should get him by this year. He only sights in to verify and shoots about 5 shots per year, usually 5 deer with the ML. Last year he got all his bucks (3 in Va) in MLer season.
