an interesting site

http://www.hornady.com/ballistics/hits_calculator.php

This is a rather interesting site when you want to know what your bullet is able to do. If you know approximately what the speed of your bullet is on impact, and the weight and diameter, this will open a few eyes.

Then run a 500 grain conical in .504 diameter, at approxiamtely 1100 fps...

I've used this calculator too - they have some good info on their website. They have a nice ballistics calculator too - you just need to know the BC and muzzle velocity of what you're shooting. I have to guess on the MV because I don't own a chrono, but it's still useful.

The "hits" calculator is pretty cool - I think it's a pretty good estimation of game-getting ability - instead of just using foot-pounds of energy, or the "Knock - Out" formula (I think it's called) which is weighted too much towards heavy, slow projectiles.

WOW - I just did your 500 grain conical example - we talking Cape Buffalo and Grizzly bear territory here? Even the old .45-70 load - 405 grain bullet impacting at 1000fps or so is pretty impressive - no wonder so many buffalo fell to it.

What's scary is do a roundball... better be hunting jack rabbits with it. So I do not know or will not say, this is an accurate estimation of what a bullet can do, but it is interesting to run some numbers through.

I played with it a bit, I get about the same answers for a long barreled 54 PRB as I do for a 250 bullet 45cal and sabot from an inline up to about 70 yds. Lee

The load I use for elk 460/115 grains T7 is more than my 300 weatherby?
This very interesting, From what I have seen firsthand I believe it.

Seems to me that RC could just fire off about 5 of those rounds instead of drinking GoLytely.
