back from the range

man it was hot, but a great day.

my new englander is sighted in. and shooting pretty good. other then I need a new nipple. i think that is what my ignition problem is, and that I could not hardly get any cap on it. (report on another thread)

shot the hell out of my usak. man this thing can shoot. 2 different bullets .5 to 3 inch groups with the same powder charge, hitting on the same scope set up i using with 230gr sure fires and 240gr 430 xtps. (full report on another thread)

found 2 bullet my knight don't like at all. 385gr great plains and 320 lee reals (may just how they where cast, I did not cast them). only did 3 shoots with the great plains, they where all over the place. only did one with the 320 real, I heard it bouncing down the barrel when I shoot it.

2 with a little work maybe good shooters. tc maxi and 250 lee reals. full report on another thread.

Semi, I have the say I am really really really sorry about what I said on the thread where you did not load a ball or a charge.

I did the same damn thing today with my knight. and had my breech plug stick on me and did have a small enough screw driver to at as a lever to break. did not find out until after I loaded an charge down the breech plug, put a new nipple on it, shoot, went to clear the cap. and there was the charge I put down it on the ground at my feet. Think nothing of it, my man. All in good fun. :) Although I have no doubt you DESERVED that little bit of trouble you had today. :D:D

The old muzzleloader monster was getting even with you for the unkind words. :D:D:D

What kind of ignition problems were you having?

That's what files are for. You can do it by hand, or mount the nipple in a power drill and dress it down a little with a file while it turns at slow speed.

Emery paper and a drill can be an easy way to reduce a thick nipple. Put tape over the threads of the nipple and then put that in a drill. Hold the emery paper around the thick part of the nipple and SLOWLY run the drill. Check the nipple from time to time to see when enough has been taken off.

Also if the caps are not fitting good, try some Remington #11 caps. Or all that might be necessary is a file and take down the very top of the nipple. Sometimes they flare a little with age.

I don't doubt that your knight didn't like the REAL bullets. I can't quite believe that they were bouncing down the barrel. LEE REAL bullets are WAY oversized on the top twodriving bands. They are.518 on the top band and .511 on the second one. I get the best results with a felt wad between the powder and bullet. Unless you shot it in a 54 it didn't bounce.

was not a 54cal, I don't own one (yet). what ever it was. it was strange noise, load enough i could hear it in the with my ear protection on.

Skipping over the rifling maybe. With deep rifling and a hard cast bullet like a maxiball, i too could hear/feel that bouncing. I think its just the bullet cutting into the rifling as you are pushing it down fast.
