Black Mountain Magnum's first range trip

Well I took the new Black Mountain Magnum Rifle out to the range today. I was set up at 50 yards. I had noticed the sight looked kind of low on the ramp but decided to shoot anyway.

I started out with 70 grains of Pyrodex P, no wad, CCI musket cap, and a 450 grain UC Short Mag conical. Shot #1 was on a clean barrel. #2 was on a fowled barrel. I them made a slight sight adjustment and swabbed the barrel clean. #3,4,& 5 were still too low, so I swabbed the barrel and made another sight adjustment. The next six shots were made without swabbing the barrel shooting the UC short conicals that I make at the house here.

I then swabbed the barrel clean and shot some 375 grain Buffalo Bullet SSB's with the supplied sabots. They loaded very nice. I swabbed between shots. I was shooting 90 grains of Pyrodex P with these conicals. I was kind of pleased so far.

I then swabbed the barrel and loaded 110 grainsof Pyrodex RS and some 250 grain Barnes Expanders with red sabots. They loaded very hard. Holding a 6 o'clock sight on that small piece of duct tape I was very happy with the Barnes and the way they grouped.

It was 74 degrees out, and very windy. I had a strong cross wind on the range, but it did not seem to effect the projectiles too much. For the first time outwith the Black Mountain Magnum I was kind of pleased. The musket caps provided an excellent ignition to the rifle.

I'd like to see how the groups hold together at 100 yards sometime as compared to an inlineusing 209 primers.
Maybe it can outshootyour White Bison?

It is a very comfortable rifle to shoot as well. With the padded stock and the weight of the rifle, it does real good with the more powerful loads...

There is still a lot of playing to do with this rifle. I might throw a scope on this one. I have a mount for it, and it would make a nice longer range rifle maybe. Perhaps after I run a few pounds of powder through it, I will know the rifle better.

Since it is a single trigger, how is the trigger pull?

pretty darn good Dave - looks like you got to make some room for it in your gun safe(s).

Chap - the single trigger is real good. It breaks clean and no creep. I would guess it around four pounds but I have not tested it..
