I could not help myself...
![]() I went to the big city today and stopped in to visit with my old Sporting Goods Shop owner friend. I also had some business to do as I needed him to look at one of my revolvers for some custom work I wanted down. And as I visited I glanced over to the USED GUN RACK and there stood a T/C Black Mountain Magnum .50 caliber 1-48 twist rifle. I of course had to look at it since I do not own one of them. And the more I looked at it I could not see where it was used. Even had the T/C Manual still chained to the trigger guard. So I asked him "What gives with this rifle?" He then said a woman brought it in to him. Her husband died and had some rifles around the house. This one she claimed he never fired or took out of the box. (I was then shown the box). I told him it looked brand new. He then said, I can not verify that so it goes with the used guns. He was selling all of her rifles on consignment. He said, well she told me her husband never fired it. His kids bought it for him and he never got interested in it. I asked to borrow my friends bore light, but he could not find it... So I shined a flash light down it and could not see anything other then a lot of dust. I then looked at the sticker on the rifle and it said $150.00 [&o][&o][&o][&o] He noticed me looking at that and said, "That's how much she wants for it." I mean come on, what's a person to do. And I do not own one of them. And I wanted a .50 caliber with that twist. And I can put my 12 gauge black powder shotgun barrel on it.. and it asked me to bring it home....[:o][:o] I just could not leave that lone muzzleloader all alone with then snotty center fires... Could I? Oh and I think I might have accidently orders a .45 ACP pistol too... I just hate that store. |
RE: I could not help myself...
$150 for a brand new gun like that is a steal. You did the right thing, just don't go into the store any more order all things online, so you don't get tempted.

RE: I could not help myself...
You are a NOBLE man, Cayugad.
There come a time in the life of every man where a choice must be made - do the right thing, or do the easy thing. Some men hesitate until the time has passed, and forfeit their chance for immortality. Some men quail at the challenge and never live up to their potential. Some men - noble men - do what must be done, and by doing so enhance the human race andare forever held in high esteem. |
RE: I could not help myself...
I can't blame you...I've never owned a factory sidelock, or a percussion...
But for $150, she would have come home with me as well...Gotta look after the grandson I have coming along!!! |
RE: I could not help myself...
see, i gave it 3 to 4 weeks before he bought something and he made up this big story about having more than enough. See cayugad, we all know you to well:D

And as I visited I glanced over to the USED GUN RACK and there stood a T/C Black Mountain Magnum .50 caliber 1-48 twist rifle. Whenlooking upthe specific details about it,severalwebsites listed the Black Mountain.50 caplock twist as being 1 in 28" and the .54 caplock twist as being 1 in 38", and with both models having QLA. Which twist is yours? Doesa New Englander shotgun barrel fit it tooordo you havea Black Mountain threaded choke shotgun barrel? |
RE: I could not help myself...

ORIGINAL: arcticap And as I visited I glanced over to the USED GUN RACK and there stood a T/C Black Mountain Magnum .50 caliber 1-48 twist rifle. Which twist is yours? Doesa New Englander shotgun barrel fit it tooordo you havea Black Mountain threaded choke shotgun barrel? T/C Black Mountain Magnum 50 1:28 you might be on to something there.. according to the barrel chart, this rifle has a 1-28 twist. The gun shop owner said 1-48 but then he might be wrong. I tried to see what the turn rate was in the barrel but to be honest I could not judge it. It does have a QLA on it. And I ran a oiled patch down it, and it came back clean as a new rifle.. so I guess I will be trying some sabots out of it tomorrow... I will have to do some checking into this. It has a musket percussion nipple which was normally used for pellets.. I am wondering since this is a magnum if this rifle can not shoot pellets. It has a strange breech for sure. |
RE: I could not help myself...
Like the TC Firestorm, the manual says that Pyrodex pellets can be used.
But unlike the Firestorm, it's notlisted as having a removable breechplug. http://www.tcarms.com/assets/manuals/noncurrent/Black_Mountain_Magnum_Loads.pdf So then you must have the New Englander shotgun barrel... |
