Kid Meets Flintlock

Introduced a hunting buddy's eight year old grandson to my .54 flintlock today. Put him on a bench with sandbags and 30 grain loads with a target at 20 yards. Explained the "pumpkin on a post" sight picture to him. Had him dryfire the double set triggers a few times with no powder in the pan. Then loaded up. His first two shots were touching and he shot a two-inch five shot group. You couldn't wipe the smile off of his face with a brillo pad.

:D:D:D they do like to smile when someone is willing to take the time to let them experience the simple joy of smoke and powder. Nice going there Semisane. You probably made a future black powder shooter...

I show a friend who did three tours in Iraq my flint lock. He was about the same wants to shoot a lot more. He must have shot thouusands of rounds in the military, but those dozen Flintlock loads sure made him smile. Maybe it was because no one was shooting back.
