groundhogs great for training
 

I did alot of work on my ruger 96/22. been shooting ground hogs at 25yrd, they do not stand an chance. I have kill 7 so far 3 have been head/neck shots. found 4 more in the last 2 days. I am wanting atleast one with the muzzy.

I am thinking about using. 240gr xtp, cheapshot, 230gr (seirra) surefire, 250gr xtp, 405gr homecast, or an overpowered 295gr hp powerbelt.

In our State, you can only shoot them under permit and certain restrictions from the Department of Natural Resources.

The Groundhog or Woodchuck by the way is very good to eat. They eat the same things as a rabbit, are very clean animals, have a good layer of fat, and some are pretty good sized. All you have to do is get over the fact it is not a rabbit your eating. I have ate them many years ago, and they were pretty good. Also if you tan the hides, they make a nice pelt...

year round open here, only time you can't shot them is in the late fall and all winter.

Bulls**t - I tried training one once and the damn thing kept biting me.
But he was mighty tasty in spaghetti sauce. Corey, your stalking ability seems pretty good to get within 25 yds of a whistle pig. I know their eyesight isn't the best but they can detect movement as good as any animal. I had one 2 years ago during archery season wondering what I was and came so close I had to smack him in the nose with my arrow to get rid of him.

I find their holes and wait. pop them as they come out. most are really young.

shot have ranged from 25 to 55yrds, most have been 25yrds. I have limit set up areas. I have not ask the owners of the feilds next to my should if I can take care of the problems.

I gotta start thinning out the rabbits. I nearly kicked 3 of them one day on the way one of the holes I was setting up at.

bronko, I think the key to training them is to make them as fat as possible and hold them up to the sun once an year. ;)
