180 grain .40 cal gold dots.
 

I just started shooting the 40 cal gold dots 180 grains.with the blue sabotsIm gonna be shooting them in a Omega X7 & a NEF huntsman with a 20 inch barrel.
I got a 4 inch group at 100yards with my omega with 75 grains BH209.
Im gonna try them in my NEF same load. Im looking for a low recoil loadMy NEF has a peep sight. Its nice & short. good for walking around. Its ugly but its a real good beater gun.Im wondering if any of you guys have any experiance with them on game.
Im good with the peep sight out to about 75 yards. So that will be the range.

I was unable to get the 40 cal/180 grain Gold Dot to group satisfactorily for me from a 1/28 or 1/24 twist rifle.... Omega and a White. I believe the bullet is just to short for that twist rate. It will shoot well from a 1/48 twist. The 200 grain 40 cal XTP was lites out though. I wish Speer would make a 40/220 grain Gold Dot...

I use 210 grain .410 Gold Dots in my .41 Mag Blackhawk. I wonder how they would work in those blue sabots?

The .400 gold dots are tight in the sabot. Who knows though, the .410 may work. My question is IF I can get them to shoot descent " 2 inch group at 50 yards" how they would perform on whitetail. Or should I just get some XTPs. I guess Im gonna have to get to the range in the next couple days[:@]

That might be really interesting..... the blue MMP 40 cal sabot is very thick and pliable.... in a gun with a .503-.504 bore that just might wok like a champ. I am sure it would go down my White - or maybe even the Knight, but really skepticalthat it might go down the Omega or Remingtons...

If you can get them to group - I am quite confident the 180 grain Gold Dot would do the deed on whitetail. They are bonded and are built to expand to certain point then continue penetrating. At the velocity you might be shooting them they should also cause a large amount of internal hydrostatic damage.

I doubt that youhave to worry about how they will perform on deer, though in truth I'm shooting them at only 1300 fps out of the 7 1/2" barrel of the Blackhawk. But they are designed for the .41 Mag, and judging by how GDs designed for the 451 Casull perform at higher MLrifle velocities, I think they would be spectacular. Anyway, they are real sexy looking bullets. That's gotta count for something.

Where they might really work is in combination with the new Harvester 40 cal "crush rib." Might have to buy a box of those 41's and some Harvester 40 cal "crush ribs and give em a shot... if they do not work out I could send you the left-overs.
