muzzleloader transfer to Canada?
 

Does anyone know what is involved in a private (not business) transfer of a muzzleloader from a US citizen to a Canadian ? Is it even legal to do that?

I believe that it's only legal to shipflintlocks directlytoCanadian citizens,but not percussion guns. And even those may be limited to rifles only,however about that I'm nottoosure.
I hope that someonewill correct me about percussion gunsif I'm mistaken, but in Canada they're regulatedthe same assmokeless rifles are.

I live in Canada and I'm in the process of doing it. The Canadian has to go to the firearms registry and have the gun verified by the RCMP. This can be done over the phone. Information required is: Make of the gun, Manufacturer's name(if different from make) Caliber, Barrel length, Serial number, and perc or flint. Then he has to register the gun with the Canadian gun registry. This can be done online. When he has his registration card his best bet is to go to the USA and bring the gun home with him. Present the papers and the gun to the border officials, pay his taxes and he's done. Otherwise you need the services of a broker and the fees for thatwill kill the deal.

Jeez thats a lot of work. I say have box it, take it down to USPS and say it is Machine parts.

Flintlocks do not have to be registered in Canada (unless it is a pistol and thats a whole diffferent story). Just buy them, declare them and ship them. Must be shipped via an authorized firearms shipper or carried across the border and given to the new owner.

Other firearms need to be registered and are generally shipped via brokers here in Canada. I'm not sure of the regulations on private sales.

When I sold my Great Plains to a guy in Canada the only reason I could ship it was because it was a flinter. I think you can also take it apart.

oops sorry i posted in the heads up thread in classifides i'm bad :):)
short summery all canada needs is a cfc certificate to cross the border with a muzzy.the muzzy's in the usa are not even concidered a firearm so can be shipped EAR99 { no liecence required } but usps and other shippers are unawear of this so continue to create hassels for us both.
