shoot and see targets
It stopped snowing this morning and the sun came out. The temp climbed to 41 degrees so I knew it was shooting weather. It was sunny but real windy (as normal for this time of year). The other day when everything was thawed out, I moved the shooting bench back to 75 yards. I wanted to try the home made shoot and see targets I made.
The five shots circled in green kind of surprised me. I shot the first round, the lowest and nearest the black spray bull. And I looked through the scope at the black and kind of laughed thinking, that shoot and see target don't work. So I shot four more. And still could not see them in the black. Well when I walked up there of course I understood why. I was aiming dead center of that black circle. I found it hard to believe that at 75 yards the conicals would be hitting that much higher, even though the rifle is sighted in at 100 yards as close as I can figure. So I aimed at the bottom of the black circle. I shot about 12 more shots holding a six o'clock with the cross hairs, and it kept laying them in that circle. I want to get back to 100 yards next as see how close this thing really is. I just can not thing of a two and a half inch drop at that distance. Although the conicals are pretty big. We will see. The homemade shoot N C target was working pretty good until the conicals just pounded the dry paint off the plastic wrap. Pretty neat actually. I put yellow duct tape down first. Then wrapped the cardboard with cling wrap. Then using a paper cup. cut the bottom out and sprayed a black circle with black spray paint. After it dried, all I had to do was shoot for the black circle... I expected a tighter group out of the rifle. I was shooting 75 grains of Triple Se7en 3f, so next time I will cut that back to 70. Also I was shooting the 460 grain .504 conicals. I never swabbed the barrel the entire time.. it was a lot of fun just to shoot today with the sun out. ![]() |
RE: shoot and see targets
Cayugad - sounds like you had some fun today. Thanks for the "spray control" tip for the home-made shoot & see. I'll use that one.:)

RE: shoot and see targets
Good shooting there Dave, I'm sure when the wind calms down the groups will tighten.

RE: shoot and see targets
WOW! Twelve shots in the black and you expected a tighter group? I'd go to sleep with a smile on my face. :)
