another good day at the range with the new englander
 

after months of fighting this gun, now I get it to work on loads. today I was shooting PRB, crisco patch 80gr of pyrodex P and RS at 50yrds. left the rs target on the shooting bench

recovered all but one patch

also shot Horniday Great plains bullets 385gr with 85grs of pyrodex p and just blasted off tc maxihunters with 85gr of pyro rs.

I think I am getting closer to figuring this gun out.




also did somemore 22 shooting, did not like how the finish came out. this thing can shot.

next time out. my knight and sks ;):D

What did you do today that was different from the other times you took the rifle out? This might help you determine what change made the rifle shoot better. Consider your projectiles, patches, lubes, powder, and powder charge... Nice shooting.

was using an shoulder mounted recoil pad. did away with it.

used pellowticker instead of store bought. (only blew one in half)

tried both pyro rs and p.

the way I was seating at the bench.

I am still (sorry FG) thinking about an scope for it.

Hey Corey,one thing I notice in several of your posts is that you tend to shoot small numbers of different bullets and loads in a range session.

I'm not trying to be a "know it all", but you really ought to try to have a plan when you're working with a gun. For example, go out with the New Englander and just one style of bullet, like 50 balls and two kinds of patch material and two kinds of grease, and work three or five shot groups with differentcombinations of those; or take a fullbox of 20 385 grainGreat Plains and shoot five shot groups with 70, 80, 90 and 100 grains of powder. Next time out -do the same, but use felt wads under the bullets or balls. Keep your targets or good notes and you'll learn more about what works and what doesn't.

this range session, I mainly was working with one type patch and 2 different powders. next time I take it out, I am going to work up an hunting load for it.

keep my notes in my ml box. targets are keep both on my computer and on an server, not to say hard copies.
