Finished the Great Plains while i was away

Had a bunch of time of my hands while i wasnt able to get on here. Spent a lot of time shooting powerbelts for testing and a lot of other stuff.

I did manage to finish my .54 Great Plains Rifle Flinter. Hope it passes your inspections.

Very nice. My only advice is to replace the ramrod with a fiberglass or alum one. Its no fun when the wooden one breaks while loading. A 1/2 loaded bullet is dangerous and that ramrod hurts like the dickens when the sharp edge pokes the web of you hand.
I hope it shoots well for you.

I think I would almost have a hard time taking that one out to shoot. Excellent work.

She loads easy with .015 / .018 pillow ticking. After 10 shots you'll start to feel them get a bit tighter.
Most broken ramrods are from grasping to high on the rod and then bending it over and breaking. I take 4-5" from the muzzle and slowly work my way down.

FG, welcome back.
Buddy, that is one sweet looking rifle. You did a fantastic job on it.

One question.
How the heck are you able to shoot powerbelts all the time?
Are you a Dr? lawyer? Do you own an oilwell?
They are just a bit too pricey for me, but then I'm a cheap SOB.:D

:D no, Chap donated 64 total 295g powerbelts. then i bought a 50 pack off indianasmokepole. I shot all chaps up a long time ago and melted the lead for my GPR, casted them, shot them again, and now i have to go remelt those again soon.

Just opened the 50 pack a few days ago.

So in all, 114 powerbelts for $30 shipped, isnt a bad deal.

Its going to hurt when my .45 Apex comes in because i plan on testing almost every powerbelt made for the .45 Except for the 175g of course. No one in their right mind would use that bullet. On the other hand, Im sure there are a few guys shooting elk with them and 3 pellet loads :D:D
