I don't know anything about the Apex - but I do know about sporting goods store salesmen. 99.9% of them don't know squat about muzzleloaders, and only 50% of them know anything useful about cartridge guns.

Nothing wrong with the winchester line. I owned an X-150 for close to 5 years and i didnt have one lick of trouble with it.

This Apex i bought is only a couple years old so she has many years of service left in her.

I agree with semi, most sales persons dont know jack squat about muzzle loaders. These are the guys that get newbies caught up in the 3 pellet loads.

"Man all you gotta do is put 3 pellets and that 223g powerbelt down the bore and you'll have the most accurate shooting muzzleloader on the range!"

Then the guy goes to the range with his scoped inline and shoots 6" groups and thinks hes doin good because the sales person said he'd get excellent groups.

Correct me if I am wrong, which has been known to happen occassionally LOL !!!
But isn't winchester the same as CVA, their guns look identical right down to the sling.

RE: Winchester Apex

They are both made by BPI.

The winchester has higher quality standards.

The sling "The Claw" was offered only on Winchesters when they first came out. CVA now uses them, along with the winchesters Solid stock. Thats why you'll notice on some of the higher end cva's they weigh close to 9lbs without a scope. The new cva's also now have an improved pad on the rear of the rifle that some claim to be almost exact to the $40 limbsaver.
The cva buttpad costs $14.

Winchesters also were the only BPI at the time, that you could buy with an Stainless Steel barrel. CVA now offers this on their high end muzzys.

Got all the stuff for the Apex today. A box of 285g hornady great plains conicals and a box of CCI shotshell primers. Have all the other stuff like BB grease/cleaner.

Store didnt have any .45 Powerbelts so i'll have to get some the next time i pick up my nephew. Will start off with the 275g Powerbelts when i get them. The hornadys will have to do for now.
