thinking about turkey hunting
spring gobbler starts soon here in VA, I figured if I did not find a job yet I will go out and try it. problem, I never been and don't own an shotgun (sold it for ml stuff:eek:). my knight fully ready for action with 3 loads (.430 240 xtp and 230gr both with 85grs of pyro p and cheap shots with 90grs of pyro rs).
VA allows about any firearm, bow or crossbow. should I try if I have time? |
RE: thinking about turkey hunting
Cory, Spring turkey hunting is awesome, once you try it you will be hooked. Just to get out in the woods and hear them gobble in the morning is exciting, and to call one in is really a thrill.I have a knight muzzleloader I am going to try this year to add another aspect to thehunt. Even if you don't want to investin another gun or bow, just take a camera and a box call and enjoy the outdoors in the spring.

RE: thinking about turkey hunting
I started a few years ago with my TK2000 and I'm hooked for life. I'm going with a bow this season (starts April 21 in MO) and taking my 5 yr old. As dphobby said it's great to be out and hear the gobblers and hens. You learn a lot more in the woods than anybody can ever teach you. If you have the itch you'd better feed it before season's end as it will nag you to death.

RE: thinking about turkey hunting
Make sure you get the right camo and a face mask-a few mouth calls
2 or 3 different box calls, maybe one of them electrictronic calls, extra batterys, plenty of ammo..You will need a turkey vest and some type of seat..A pair of binocs..2 or 3 different decoys,a skinnin knife, camo rain gear and good boots..If your going early, then you will also need a light or some type, also with extra batterys..I'm sure there r a lot of other items you will need before going out...you should make a list...Good luck....Johnny |

RE: thinking about turkey hunting
Corey; Turkey hunting is just another one of those bad habits, like muzzleloading!! Beware it may be habit forming!!Next thing will be a new vest, new gun or guns, calls etc. Time off work, more time inthe woods etc!!
