MMP sabots max velocity

Quick question here-

On my packs of MMP sabots (these are the tan, .45/40 sabots) it says to never load more than 80 grains blackpowder or RS equivalent. This sounds awful weak for a max load to me. Are they concerned about people blowing up old barrels with magnum loads, or are the sabots only designed to function properly at these velocities?

I'd like to work up a 90 - 100 grain 777 load, but now I'm worried that the sabots won't work properly at that speed and I'll get bad or erratic accuracy.

Thanks

I have used the tan knight sabot in my .45’s up to 135 of T& fff with no problems. These were with lighter bullets. Make sure your gun is rated for more powder.

Some sabots are for the higher pressure loads.. but I have shot the lighter sabots with strong charges. All you can do is try. If anything is going to be effected it will be the accuracy.

Thanks for the replies. I'm rated for 150 grains BP/RS max load. I guess I'll just have to try it out and see what happens!

If the sabots are blown apart with the petals missing or you get flyers then the charge is too much for the sabot, there is an excellent sabot write up on "inspecting sabots for bulletperformance", here is a google of that:

I believe this was the article I read: http://www.gunweek.com/2004/feature0610.html

In general most MMP and Harvestersabots seem to work pretty well, even in Savages shooting 2300+ fps. Chap Gleason
