help with the next color for my stock
I started the refinishing another stock. 3 days removing the old stain[&:]. taking the stain off my sks was easier then this one. bleaching it now. anyway
I was going to linseed oil but with all the trouble I am having with this stock it may not be the best. now I am thinking of doing a really dark stain. I am thinking in oil based ebony jacobean red mahogany ![]() love to have yall's thoughts and help on this, it is a blued barrel. |
RE: help with the next color for my stock
I like the mahogany personally, but it's not my rifle. The jacobean might look good too. IMO the ebony is going to be too dark - like having a black synthetic stock. Good luck!

RE: help with the next color for my stock
I think either the jacobean or the red mahogony. From what little experience I have with woodstain, real dark or real light stains show an uneven application a lot worse than others. I think the jacobean is going to make it have a little more of an aged look, whereas the mahogany will look a little more classy. Just my opinion though.

All of them look a little too dark for my liking. So I guess since it is your rifle, and you have to enjoy it, it should be you that picks the color. I always liked a lighter color to wood more like an oak or light maple color.. all a matter of preference.

I may go lighter. I am going to give it one more round of bleaching. then see.

RE: help with the next color for my stock
what is the stock made out of. those three colors will all appear totally different, lighter or darker depending on the wood. for example i re-finished my 870 express after i cut the stock down w/ ebony because it is made of birch it didnt penetrate very well and ended up coming out a tick lighter then a jacobean color. still better then the origanal nasty color of the express line in my opinion.....test a small area under the barrel or behind the but platefirst and then decide thats what ide do.
