duh, I forgot to take something back to a friend

back before christmas, I brought home a cabela's 1851 confedrate navy that I was trying to work on for a friend of mine. could not get the hammer to stay in place. so I put it up and forgot about it. I found it while cleaning up. has anyone tried the parts kit from cabela's. would it fix the hammer problem? or just get it and see what it does?

Cabela's replaced it and did not ask for this one back.

became my little project gun. [8D]

I kinda forgot about posting this about the same gun when I first started on here wow [&:]. http://www.huntingnet.com/forum/tm.aspx?m=2385490
I ordered the parts kit for it. about $30 shipped. figured it would not hurt. may just get it work enough to play with but not shot.

Not sure what you mean about the hammer "not staying in place". Will it not cock and catch the sear notch? I fitted a hammer and trigger and cylinder from an italian Navy Arms Remington to an original Remington which took a lot of work as they made the foreign stuff to metric measurements and the original was non standard us measurements. It finally worked enough to be shot but the balls are too small to shoot accurately as the original used a larger ball in the cylinder. Next step is to ream out the cylinder to the original Remington diameter. The original had been overloaded at some time and split the original cylinder and the whole thing was dropped in a bunch of old chains and junk and had become a ball of rust. The recovery was a real job but it belonged to my Grandfather so I spent the time to get it back into shooting condition.

the hammer can not be fully cocked, only half cock. also the hand spring broke off. wondered why they cylinder would not work right. if it does not work, oh well it was not working before I got it.
