Good day shooting
Took the .54 flinter great plains out this morning. 2 shots with 90 grains ffg goex and a crisco lubed ox-yoke .015 patch and a home cast .530 shot right where they did yesterday, made snake eyes out of those 2, Next shots were with 100 grains and those did well, i got a pretty good hangfire on the second shot which barely hit the corner of the box.
Next 2 shots and my hunting load, 110 grains ffg, put 2 holes into one @ 71 yards. Its a nice stiff kiss, but the drop on the GP's stock handles recoil wonderfully and you dont even feel anything. Just feels like someone came up behind you and smacked you hard right in the back of the head :D CVA Bobcat, 50 yards, 295 grain all lead powerbelt, These shot WAY off! I couldnt even tell where they were hitting. I'll have to resight in for these so i can Sand trap test them. TC Hawken, 80 grains Pyro-select, 295 grain all lead powerbelt, My first shot went over the coffee can sand trap, next shot i did on paper and found it to be shooting 6" high @ 50 yards which doesnt seem right to me. Next shot i aimed low and nailed the corner of it but darn it! Damn bullet went right through the can. I just barely hit the can. The hole it ripped into the side was, well, it peeled off the Entire back side of the coffee can. I know the cva and tc both shoot the powerbelt copper series very well, these lead bullets i think are building up more pressure and throwing my shots higher than normal. Will resight in for the lead powerbelts so i can test them. It was a good day shooting but i want to get those lead powerbelts on sight. Its killing me not knowing what they will do in the sand trap. Time to clean [&:] Someone please buy the TC Hawken so i have one less gun to clean. |

RE: Good day shooting
Wow those lead powerbelts really lead up your barrel. I only took 3 shots with the cva and my patches come out with silver residue.
Guess i'll pick up some lead remover along with a box of hornady great plains conicals. That bastard Indiana smokepole wants me to try them out in the Hawken [:@] I'll get you back one day Ron. |

RE: Good day shooting
AND you paid what for them? Lee
|
RE: Good day shooting
i paid nothing for the powerbelts.
Chap sent me 64 295 grain hp's and i traded Corey a package of those for the 295 grain lead powerbelts so i could test them out. Those babies packa punch thats for sure. |
RE: Good day shooting
good to hear you. should like you had a lot of fun.

RE: Good day shooting
Yep, had lots of fun until that 100 grain Pyro Select went off. The side of my face is actually still numb:D
Now i am going to reward myself with a deer steak slowly roasted over an open campfire. You should see the cooking stick i made. Chopped a small sapling down with my green river, stripped the bark then used a file to get all the knots down. Purdiest cooking stick i've ever hung meat off of. Just hope i can find some dry wood/ pine needles to get a fire going. Deer tastes the best cooked like that IMO. |
