Shot Patches From The GP
I posted this picture on another forum in response to a question, so I thought I may as well post it here also.
These are some shot patches with Wonder Wads from my GP flinter using 95 grains FFFg. ![]() |
RE: Shot Patches From The GP
amazing how good of a condition the patches are in with the use of a simple bore button...

They liik like you could use them again.

RE: Shot Patches From The GP
When putting the bore button in the barrel, How do you get it to lay flat on the powder?
|
RE: Shot Patches From The GP
It doesn't seem to want to turn sideways, or get cocked. When I first started using them I would seat the button on the charge with therod before I loaded the bullet. Then I started just pushing the button in about 1/4" with my finger, loading the bullet, and ramming the whole works down together. I've never had one not go down flat on the charge. I can tell by the witness mark on the ramrod that the button is laying flat.

Thanks Semi.
I take it that their just thick felt button cut to bore dia? Are they lubed at all? Also, those patches look an awful lot like my dishtowels???? |
RE: Shot Patches From The GP
Heres a .018 pillow ticking patch lubed with borebutter. Recoverd from my GP with 90 grains FFg. I am going to try some TC prelubed .015 patches tomorrow after the Powerbelt testings. Got some all lead powerbelts to try out.

RE: Shot Patches From The GP
Hey gander, are you cutting that pillow ticking into round patches? I used to do that. Found a simple square cut works just as well.
|
RE: Shot Patches From The GP
precut. I do have a bunch of pillow ticking in my patch box. I dont really like to cut at the muzzle with the warm weather we have. Seems to messy.

RE: Shot Patches From The GP
I hate cutting at the muzzle. Never do it. I precut and lube my patches at home and keep them in my range bag in a 4 oz. urine specimen bottle :D. Easy to handle on the shooting bench and holds about 200 patches. For hunting, I carry about a dozen in my pocket in one of those little easy opening round pill cases from the drug store.

Dang...I carry my patches....In the Patch Box....:D
It's funny, for years, I used pre-cut, then pre-lubed...Now, I'm making my own lube, buying bulk material and cutting at the muzzle (or loading block)... |
RE: Shot Patches From The GP
I've never used a loading block. Always wanted to try one - just never got around to it.
