I am not a big conical shooter so I can not answer your questions for positive... In my mind the fiber wads would have provided a better insulation - if that mattered and I am sure varying your powder load would have/could havemade a difference in POI...

Harmonics in the barrel can make a huge difference - so yes I think a different powder amount might/could make a huge difference...

When I shoot conicals, I like a fast burning powder. If you have some Triple Se7en 3f, try that around 70 grains and see what happens.

Well guys, I've shot what's probably over a hundred different load combinations out of my Mustang. I have a canvas tool bag that weighs about 40 pounds with maybe eight or tendifferent 50 caliber bullet styles in it - from 250 grains to 410 grains - Speers, Hornadys, Lees, Remingtons, Sierras, etc. I've got more possible load combinations than I can ever get to.

So what does Sabotloader say? "Have you ever shot any slip fit Bull Shops or No Excuses?"

"No" I say.

"You really should try some ofthem" he says.

"Maybe one day" I say "but I've got lots of loads yet to shoot. Besides, I'm pretty busy with the new flintlock"

So the cruel, cruel man sends be an assortment of test bullets to try, and demands that I shoot them. THE NERVE OF THAT GUY!

Well anyway, I did as I was told. Gotta do your homework. Below is a picture of the bullets he sent, and fivetargets from the range session. When I finished shooting the conicals, I shot one target with my tried and true Gold Dot load just to confirm my shooting technique for the day.

Here's the bullet assortment.

SL may be cruel, but he is100% sane, for sure. I wouldstick with those Gold Dots in that mustang,'cause you ain't beating what that is shooting, however the 3rd target with the .503 Bullstops came close, they look like your best bullet if your gonna go Conical. Are you planning on an elk hunt in Colorado, cause that is what SL uses em for in Idaho. Little skinny old whitetails in the south will go down with a lot lesspain in your arm. However you areSemisane, so I think I see your logic of alwaysdoing your homework for a cruel taskmaster. The crud ring would keep me away from them also, since your not getting one with the Gold Dot and the .25 ACP. Didn't realize they had a fit for the Mustang, I know SL shoots that on one of his Omega's and will probably do so with his newKnight, that looks so cool with that floated barrel. Best Wishes on further HW assignments, especially with the GM FL. They are really fun.

No just partly
Most people have the best luck with around 80 gr some even lighter
The only way to find out what matchs the harmonics of any particular gun is to try it
Remember that after you have shot a certain amount of strongly recoiling loads your shooting will go down hill somewhat thats one of the reasons a person should try every load at three seperate times.
Have fun. Lee

Last time I looked out the window it was still nice and white out there.... :D:D So yes, we still have snow. Is it nice and warm there?

Sunday's range session with the flintlockwas 65 degrees, sunny with big white puffy clouds, light breeze. But Saturday's session when I shot Sabotloader's homework assignment wasn't nearly as nice - it was down around 55 degrees.

Do you have a Kadooty and a set of scales? :D

RE: Sabotloader Is A Cruel, Cruel Man

No - no Kadooty ($119 - `ya gotta be kidding.) Scales - yep! (Not really necessary for ML, but I like playing with weighed charges some times and I sure need them for reloading cartridges.

I'm a leg man myself. Are you a Kadooty man, Underclocked?
