T/C Hawken .50

Took a look at the T/C Hawken my buddy had $75 invested in.

The barrel is questionable. No bad pitting, but someone drilled & tapped it for bases and it has some external pitting.

The stock, triggers, and lock were in good shape, though. :D

So I saved him the devestating financial loss he was facing and gave him $75. for it.
Looks like I'll be shopping for a drop-in barrel. ;)

Well a new barrel is a piece of cake.. that rifle would still be on my rack for that price.

Call me stupid here but how much will that drilling and tapping job weaken the barrel? They look like pretty big holes...are they big enough to hurt the integrity of the barrel? It was definitely a cob job..lol....but thats a definite steal for that price...Id buy em all day long also...lol.

If it were me and I wanted to shoot that barrel I would simply lock tight some screws into those holes. They do look rather large. The bases I bought attached to where the rear sight was... But you're right, that is still a good deal. I throw a GMB on there and have a nice shooting rifle.

that is a good buy!! congrats!! I saw a used .54 hawken bbl today for $159 in a gun shop near me. So the $75 was a good invest ment. Ought to check w/gmb and see if they have any of those 21in bbls left!

Now the big question is what caliber IBS barrel to buy????????
I'm thinking a .40 might be a good compromise for small game hunting & plinking. It would even be legal for deer, but not a caliber I'd want to make anything but close carefully placed shots with.
I see "Track of the Wolf" has them in stock (32" - 1:48 twist), anyone know of the service they provide?

I've never had a problem with Track of the Wolf for anything. Remember, you need the 15/16th flats. That .40 would be a pretty nice caliber for small game, varments, plinking, range, even deer at close range....

I may just give them a call the first of the week.Ordered the wife a nice pendant she saw on JTV today, so I should be safe with one package for myself. :D
I can always tell her they were both in the same price range ($0. - $200.) without lying, even if hers was only $40. (It IS in that range) ;)
