Deerstalker question?

I happen to run across an old Lyman deerstalker in a gun shop today. It had all the brass stuff on it(looked alot like a T/C Hawken)and it also had double triggers. It was a 54 cal. but I could not find any twist info on the barrel. It was in pretty nice shape and I was wondering if anybody knew what the twist would be and about how much the gun was worth?? The shop was asking $400.

Even new they are not that much... It amazes me how some places think their stuff is worth so much while at the same time yours is worthless. If the rifle is in great shape. $200 would be fair. Of course that depends on how bad you wanted it.

I agree. About $200.

I think I had paid around $250 for my lyman deerstalker brand new a couple years ago. Of course mine was the newer model with the blued hardware and single trigger.

I paid 275 in December for my 54 flinter. That was new in the box

In answer to you other question, I believe all the Deerstalkers were 1 in 48 twist.

Thanks...I really wasn't interested in a deerstalker anyway...but I don't ever remember seeing one that had all the brass and the double triggers. Also, the dealer told me it was a deerstalker, but it didn't say deerstalkler anywhere on the rifle?

I do not think the DeerStalker has brass "stuff" all over it. And it has a single trigger. I may be wrong, because in the past different manufacturers have done different things. Tom.

I have a Dixie Gun Works Hawkins, its made by Investarms, has a lot of brass and double set triggers. Could this be what you are seeing?

RE: Deerstalker question?

My deerstalker has a 24 inch barrel blued and a rubber recoil pad With all the brass it could be a Lyman great plains or trade rifle. Usually deerstalkers are shorter
