No Excuses 460 gr ?
I've tried the NE 460 grain bullets in my Trade Rifle, and have had fairly good accuracy.
Has anyone tried them in a faster twist? 1:28? I was going to try them in my KRB, but if they won't perform well, I don't want to waste them. Anyone used either the NE or similar with any success in inlines with a fast twist? |
RE: No Excuses 460 gr ?
check w/sabotloader, I seem to remember a post of his w/groups he shot w/those big lead bullets out of a gm bbl, fast twist bbl. I've read that they have to be real close to bore diameter for good results. A couple of pals shoot them out of their whites w/ good results!!

RE: No Excuses 460 gr ?
I am shooting the Bullshop .504 460gr NEX with 85gr 2fg 777 and a .510 wad out of my KRB7 with great Accuracy .
Go ahead you will like them. I also shoot the BS .504 445gr U C Shorts with same setup and they also shoot fantastic ! Ron |
RE: No Excuses 460 gr ?
I too would love to know how they shoot. I hear such great things about these bullets, and how they perform on game, besides being pretty reasonably priced, but they shot horrible out of my Omega. However, that was probably due to the QLA. Am seriously thinking of trading my Omega in on a KRB if the reports of them shooting conicals well keeps up.

txhunter58, with a light load[75gr] a greased felt wad[1/4"] with 20 gr corn meal on top of the wad they will group 2" when I dont goof in my Omega. But with that load the trajectory looks like a rainbow if you plot it. Lee

RE: No Excuses 460 gr ?
I shoot 460 No Excuses-503 out of my wichester apex in a 1'' group at 80yds. Also shoot 504 460s out of a knight disc that will shoot 2'' at 100yds. both guns I shoot with 80grns of t7 fff. I shot 2 deer with the apex and these bullet and they preformed well. I dont use a wad or shot card but am going to try them this spring when I can get back to the range. Kerry

RE: No Excuses 460 gr ?
You will probably find some excellent results with them in your KRB. I would start the loads with 70 grains of as fast a burning powder you have on hand. Goex 3f, Triple Se7en 3f, Pyrodex P, all of them would work. Triple Se7en 2f also works well but kick the grains up 10%. I've shot them with and without a wonderwad. Both ways, they shoot well.

I think some were that you said you had a Program that calculated Balistix I was just wondering if you could calculate the Foot lbs of energy in such a load? 80gr 2fg 777 & a 460gr NEX with a over powder Wad @ 50yds - 100 yds - 150 yds Also 85gr & 90Gr And with a 445gr Conical with same powder charges with barrle lenghs of 24" - 26" & 28" That would be of some great Help Also. RE: No Excuses 460 gr ?
sabotloader,I thought I had my chrony fixed but it must still be sick you show over 200fts more velocity than I do unless T7 pushs them a lot faster than black or RS. Lee

I really believe it does + remember that is T7-3f... Here is target with the chrono times I got with both 2f and 3f ![]() |
RE: No Excuses 460 gr ?
Can't you get it to shoot any better than that sabotloader? Two of those shots aren't even touching the others.:D
Man, that's great shooting, especially withfiber optic sights. |

Thanks that is some Sweet Shooting right there For Shure. Ron |
RE: No Excuses 460 gr ?
http://whitemuzzleloading.com/Ballistic%20Tables.htm Those figures should give you a reasonable expection of velocity, Ron. I would guestimate just a bit more velocity with the 2F T7 compared to Pyro P.

It is a lot of energy all the way thru the ranges, but you can get near the same energy with a much better trajectory, penetrationand whole lot faster time to the target shooting a 300 grain Gold Dot.. not to even mention drop - than a conical. I shoot the 460 for 10 days of the hunting season because by rule I have to, but other than that it would be a modern copper jacket. This chart shows the bullet shot with 100 grains of T7-2f and it was early in my testing - I am now shooting 110 grains got better accuracy which also moves the bullet @ 1825fps vs the 1750 of the 100 grains ![]() |
RE: No Excuses 460 gr ?
sabotloader, Well I haveproblems withthat chrony any how, I have had to repair it twice and since I dont have a schmatic it was not what I would wish. You have a record of 90 black or RS by any chance ? would you believe I only got 1280 for 90 gr, unless I wrote it down wrong. Lee

Sorry Lee, I do not have any recorded information for the Pyro's. I just have never shot it that much. I had a bottle once along time ago shot just a few rounds from it and just bought another bottle a few months back to shoot PRB's with but that is about the total of my Pyro shooting. When I first got my chrono - I shot a lot bullets through it - but i always kinda worried about making sure I did not shoot the chrono more than I did concentrating on the group I was shooting - course just the thought would ruin the groups - so I have not used it that much lately. I need to though because I have changed all my hunting loads to 110 grains and the loads from the sidehammers are all T7-3f instead of 2f these days. I should get some up to date information... might be a good spring project. Still have not shot this new Z5 that I got... I am torn between keeping it (which I absolutely do not need) or re-selling it - which was the plan in the first place. I bought it just to get the thumbhole stock off it for the my good Omega, then I put it in the extra grey/black laminate Omega stock I have. That was a mistake - it looks GREAT! I am really hoping to get out next week and shoot something - at this point I do not care which rifle it is - I just need to go shoot and I think the new knee is strong enough now if I am careful. |
RE: No Excuses 460 gr ?
sabotloader, ok thanks mike I just wanted to be sure if it was not working right I did not give out any bad info, should get a new one but I am looking a buying another hunting spot so not spending much. Lee
