made in belgium , 58cal smoothbore, 51" long barrel. Its taller that my brother and hes 6'2!! I want to take it apart and play with it but my damn niece and nephew got me sick again[:@] I always get sick when i go over there it seems. Rifle weighs close to 10lbs. Really good shape too! Even the bore is pretty good.

Anyone have any clue what i have? I found some books that listed rifles like this and they were Dutch trade rifles. This one also has a 2 piece lock and what looks to be either an eagle or hawk engraded into the rear part.

My bro-in-law has my great, great, great?? uncles musket from the civil war. Big hole in the end of the bbl,no ramrod, weak hammer spring, rust some, but still a part of history. I have not seen it in 20 yrs or so, but he still has it!!

That's the strangest looking lock I've ever seen, Gander. I've never seen a back-action flintlock. Looks like it was cobbled together by putting a flint hammer on a back action caplock and mateing it together with the front half of a flintlock.

It is strange. But the #'s stamped into the lock and then the frizzen part of the lock All match. The main spring is also Coil. I have the lock soaking in oil right now. its really a clean piece. Has about a 20lb trigger but the oil should help that up. May just spent the $30 and have TOW tune the lock.
Doesnt even have a touch hole liner, just a small hole drilled into the side of the barrel.

Welp, Fever dropped so i went and took the lock out of the oil and was surprised to find a nice clean lock! After taking the entire lock apart for cleaning and steel wooling, the lock started working smoothly. I only had 5/8 tom fuller flints so i found a thick one that fix the jaws, after some tinkering, shes sparking like a champ! I need to order some 3/4" flints.

Turning out to be a fun rifle afterall!

Lock was dirty as heck inside there, This is it soaking in the oil. Anyone have a clue how you remove this type of coil spring? I want to polish the lock inside there but am unsure how to remove it.

To remove the coil spring take a pair of needle nose pliers and pull back on the pointed part near the lock hammer. Just pull back and it will compress the spring while the inner part slides back thru a hole on the other side of the spring. If that spring is weak it looks about the same size as a TC sidelock spring; might make the hammer a bit faster if you swap it out.

Hey Frontier; ya need to put a bayonet on that rifle!

That lock looks pretty good there. Did it help the trigger pull too?

If he put a bayonet on it, he could throw it like a spear if he missed with the first shot...:D

Helped the trigger pull big time! Its maybe 6lb pull now. Should be fun to load under field conditions:D

Kind of dissapointed a little. It turned out to be a .54cal.

But it does shoot sweet! :D 10 grains 4f, with 50 grains Pyrodex p, .530 roundball, crisco lubed .015 patch loaded nicely and after 5 shots, it was still shooting good! It amazed me at how little powder i had to put in the pan. Everything on the rifle works great so i think it'll be a keeper.
