replacement barrel
 

I bought an austin and Halleck Mountain rifle just after they closed up shop, figured I better get one then if I ever was going to. I got the barrel with the fast twist for conicals. Now I have second thoughts, wishing I would have goten the slow twist for the RB. any of you all know if green mountain makes a replacement for this, It would need to be browned, or I suppose I could refinish it that way. I know green mountain make many replacements for other makes but never seen one for A & H.

Oh this thing kicks like a rented mule when loaded with a 460 no excuses and 110 t7, one of the reasons I want a round ball barrel.

You would have to call Green Mountain Barrel Company and talk to Kerry. She could tell you if they have a barrel that would fit that rifle.

I don't think there is a rifle out there that would not have a pretty solid kick with that load. Why not just back off on the powder and go with a sabot and lighter bullet if the recoil is the main reason for going to a round ball?

Thanks for the reply, I tend to favor the heavier loads, for hunting elk. However, it must be the design of this rifle that make the recoil worse than using th esame load in my 420 inline. I will try it with a pb at 348 grns and reduce the powder next time. But I still have a hankering for cutting patches at the muzzle.... something fun about that.

serious redneck.. I shoot a .58 caliber Green Mountain Barrel and it's pet load is 110 grains of Goex 2f and a .570 patched roundball. I never hunted elk with a muzzleloader, but I would guess that with that load, I could give an elk a real bad day if I could get with in 100 yards of one. And I have a Green Mountain Barrel with a 1-28 twist that shoots a 460 grain conical real well. I know I could give an elk a bad day with that. If you can stand the recoil, and it is an accurate load, being you hunt elk, I say more power to you.
