RE: Anyone use muzzle protectors?

Do you use a lathe to recrown ? I have an older CVA Apollo that the end of the barrel has some rust. I haven't shot in a several year but would like to try to shoot again , now that I know a little more than I did then. If it doen't group I thought about recrownin it.

If you are not sure that the Apollo you have is a safe one, call CVA and be sure to ask them. They can normally tell by the serial number. There was a problem with them in the past with causing injury to people because the breech plug failed.

I've never had to recrown a barrel and to be honest, I am the last person you would want to have working on anyone's rifle with powertools. Metal and me do not agree for some reason.

Thanks
I called them a several years ago mine is not one. I don't think it has a breech plug.

95 and 96 are the only model years with the recall.

No breech plug? All the apollos had breech plugs

I always use a bore guide for both range rods and short starters.

True what Chap saidthat for a hunting ML this may be over protective, but if you are like me and shoot several pounds of powder a year, a couple of bucks to help protect the bore of your favorite ML is well worth it.

Really nice brass bore guides available from Track of the Wolf:

I stand corrected on this thread, thanks for the link. Never saw one at Cabelas etc for MLer. Thanks Chap

My mistake - don't know what I was thinking it has a breech plug.
