Showin off the wood grain on the GPR

Gotta show off the wood grain on the .54 GPR flinter. I finished the rear part of the stock a little over 2 weeks ago and havent really messed much with the rifle since then. I just have to put the finishing touches on the lock area and brown the barrel and it will be complete.

I also will not be putting any inlays into the stock now that i know what the stock looks like when oiled. Heres a couple pics of the Cheek piece side of the stock. I call it Marble due to the way it swirls and just stands out.
Also see the work i did on top of the stock, i didnt like the way it originally looked so i reshaped that to the style of an original Plains rifle hawken, But decided to not go as deep as the originals were.

Couple more pics.
Semi, i didnt use any stain, i decided against it. Its just hand rubbed coats of linseed oil.

Fine looking piece of wood there gander. Lyman does seem to usepretty decent lumber on the GPs. The factory finished stock on mine is darker than the finish you chose, but it also has nice grain.

That's a nice chunk of wood, FG. I agree with you, stain isn't necessary when you've got beautiful grain like that.

Thanks.
The gun rack i made turned out to be very useful. I still have to add 2 more pins to it so i can put my other 2 new rifles up there.
