RE: TC Hawken Came in!
well its shooting 4" to the right @ 40 yards, groups good. Had to use a .015 patch due to the .018 not wanting to work out, tight bore it seems. After shooting i took it inside to clean and noticed the ramrod spring broke on me outside so, have to get a new one. Very fun rifle to shoot thats for sure.

RE: TC Hawken Came in!
That is a very nice looking rifle there... nice wood. How do you always get so lucky with good wood?

RE: TC Hawken Came in!
:D I was just looking at the wood now. Appears to have some really nice grain under that ugly stain/finish. Thinking about restaining the stock at a later time. Way to many projects to do! Its bad enough i have a full stock coming in thats close to 65" long and needs restaining[:'(] Thats gonna be a fun stock.
I got a pretty good deal on this rifle so im happy with it. Thinking about replacing the brass with iron trim when i do restain it. |
RE: TC Hawken Came in!
Congratulations on gettin a fine piece of iron. I love to shoot mine, I built it from a kit when I was about 14, the barrel is glass bedded. here is a pic after I redid the browning in early 2006

RE: TC Hawken Came in!
I just re-blued my old Renegade barrel. I used Birchwood Casey Cold Blue and it worked pretty good. I had built the rifle from a kit back in the late 70's or maybe very early 80's and the brown that was on it just wore off. I kind of like the barrel again. Then I put a new set of T/C sights on it, so I might have to take that to the range and see how it does.

I'd sell it cheap before I got too attached! :D
But you're probably already attached. [:@] |

corey
It has to be clean & oil free to blue. I usually scrub parts to be blued in warm soapy water, then rinse well and throw then in a pot of water & boil them for a few minutes. Don't pick the part up from the pot! If there's an oil scum on top of the water you'll get it on the part again. Instead, slowly pour the water out of the pot so the oil goes with the water. Then the part will be clean & warm and should take the bluing. |
