Cast bullet shootout
 

Thought this might interest some of you. Ed Mehlig, a fellow White owner and message board friend, has conducted a test of my cast bullets alongside some from Bob Bowers, another of my message board friends. Ed is in Pennsylvania, Bob is in Virginia, and I'm here in Missouri.

The difference in the weights of these bullets is less than indicated, mine average ~425 grains and Bob's more in the 440 grain area. Mine are pure lead, Bob's have a small % of tin.

Bob got his casting equipment just this past Christmas after his wife consulted me via email about suggesting gifts. As you can see, he's picking it up pretty quick and is already teaching me a thing or two.

I believe the squares on the target are roughly 1/2". I've contacted Ed for a measurement.

Bob's handle is T-bolt and of course......

If you two keep shooting groups like that dang if I might have to break down and try them BIG old bullets.

Are you casting your own conicals?Where can I get a mold?Sure would made shooting cheaper.

Yes on casting my own. Molds can be had all over the place but MidwayUSA, F&M Reloading, and Midsouth have good pricing. What rifle are you shooting?

You would need good lead, a melting pot and ladle, and things you could just find around the house in addition to the mold/s. It can be very cheap or very expensive depending upon how deep you want to go into the hobby but is very satisfying to shoot a bullet you cast and get great results.
